Medical Conditions and Weed

Years ago, I was led to believe I had some depression. While I am certain I was depressed, taking pills was a recipe for disaster for me. At one point, because of my 'disability' or ability - I was told I may be bi polar. Well there is a manic side to me. For example, I cant plant a tree. It has to be a dozen or two. I cant plant a vine, it has to be a vineyard. I cant do certain things without completely absorbing myself into the subject and really vetting it out.

I wanted to run fish tanks, I turned my room into a breeding fish warehouse. Why not just a simple tank? My mind doesnt work that way.

So I read this:

BIPOLAR DISORDER Grinspoon and Bakalar (1993, 1997) presented 6 case studies of people with bipolar disorder, who used cannabis to treat their symptoms: Some used it to treat mania, depression, or both. They stated that it was more effective than conventional drugs, or helped relieve the side effects of those drugs. One woman found that cannabis curbed her manic rages. . . . Others described the use of cannabis as a supplement to lithium (allowing reduced consumption) or for relief of lithium’s side effects. These clinical observations are important leads to the potential use of cannabinoids for treating manic depressive disorder and suggest that clinical trials should be conducted

I found that interesting also because while I never fully accepted this diagnosis ( if you read the "are you bi-polar" pamphlet, you might see that the majority of people fall within some spectrum )

OK point here- I also have or had diabetes. I controlled that by weight loss, and well cannabis too.

I have zero depression and could normally be considered more than the happiest pig dipped in shit.

I guess I wanted to just throw that out there- really awesome neat stuff out there regarding the medical effects and benefits. Not only that- but the beauty of this all- is we can tailor things to specific ranges of ailments.

Anything specific you all want to share and how its helped you?

I have a friend who has adhd. Everyone has adhd to an extent, IMO, but he's different. Clinical adhd I'll call it. Sativas calm him down and indicas get him jumpy. He's obviously wired backwards. Funny how people's bodies interpret things differently.

Im glad MJ works for you chem!

In more than one way. Actually assisted me with losing 60lbs and keeping it off. Keeps me healthier than ive ever been in my life. I get sick when I get food poisoning- not flus or colds. . While I still have issues sleeping through the night- i function on 5-6 hrs max sleep and am always alert and up up up. Im working on a tincture for sleep issues. Thats where I feel the growing community can come together and help one another.

Well thats the thing. Wouldnt either indica or sativa pulled late in harvest give the same similarish effect? Thats why I feel we can help the canna medi world- for commercial- they want quantity- for smaller scale- you can dial into early harvest, mid and late- to give a rainbow of effects for various ailments unless I get this all wrong.

Not to mention- PTSD.... to the list. Yes it helps tremendously. People who were effected by 9/11 can be seen taking a slew of anti depressants. Life changing shit- meanwhile im deeply effected by those events yet I found it more palatable and deal able while under cannabis meds.

While cbn production increases as flowers ripen, you're also losing thc as the trichomes are oxidizing.

There's plenty of "couchlock" indicas that work well for my wife and I.

Grand Daddy Purple, Bubba Kush, Tahoe OG, purple kush (thanks kingfish), blueberry, to name a few.

Keep in mind, everyone is different. Just because bubba doesn't work, it doesn't mean the others won't as well.

I have chronic depression - which is just an underlying feeling of gloom or sadness, rather than the debilitating type of depression. I took Prozac for years. It never really helped, but I took it non-the-less. This is one reason I am anxious to get on the marijuana merry-go-round. I think it will help me!

My husband is living proof that marijuana helps his crohns disease. Lord, I cannot wait until he, maybe even both of us, can be medical marijuana card holders. We just have to be patient.

Being here and talking with all of you gives me hope and lifts my spirits. Thank you for that!

Sounds like your really on your way to using cannabis for your conditions Chemichael, and a back pat to you for opening up on forum! 😊
I was diagnosed with late stage Lyme disease a few years ago, and I feel my cannabis use has helped tremendously with the overall aches and pains that the Lyme bacterium can do when left untreated for so many years. Other factors are helping also (like becoming a plant based eater), but I'm confident that adding cannabis is making a big difference! 🌻

Hi Chem :-) I'm glad you found the tincture.. It's better for you then smoking all the time.

Making candy has one rule you need the temp. right, they sell candy thermometers for that. Here is a recipe for candy and I'd add the tincture (aged the better) the last step. Make any flavor you like.

Sorry Rock, you're doing the right way in diet first don't forget the Omega 3 fatty acids..highly anti-inflammatory. Good thoughts your way!

Thanks Chem for sharing such personal challenges. I use cannabis for insomnia and to some degree anxiety. And of course I also appreciate its physiological effects.

I hate to admit it among a bunch of people who use it for medical reasons, I just enjoy cannabis for fun... 😅

I feel like it's healthier than drinking. 🍹 I used to be a daily drinker, and now I only drink if I'm with friends, and mostly stick to weed.

I lost a lot of weight after the switch. I think the calories from the sugary alcoholic drinks really was adding up, and every time I was drunk I'd get the "munchies" and eat everything in the house. I know it may not be the norm, but I actually feel like cannabis helps me control my appetite........ Food tastes way better after smoking, but I don't get that sort of urgent need to snack on salty and sweet stuff that I can't satisfy no matter how much I eat..... 🍬

Thanks Karlee, good thoughts back to you! 🌸 Yes, changing my diet to "vegan" has been extremely important for me, and yes, I get lots of Omega 3, including ground flax, hemp, chia, walnuts,,leafy greens, as well as DHA algae supplement. And always take B 12 and D as insurance. The cannabis use is icing on the cake to feel better! And I love getting high!! 😊😊
