main stalk repair

the other day I was trying to open up the canopy a little bit by tying some of the side branches and pulling them down. I was using these soft wire ties and anchoring them to the bag. One plant that I was doing this to snapped at the main stalk. At first I just thought it was the duct tape ripping but then I seen what really happened. Didn't realize that the branch was one of the main branches ( not paying attention) and wound up splitting at the stalk. Besides trying to splint it up is there anything else I can do? Like putting some sort of salve over the wound to keep bugs and infection out? Hopefully I don't lose the little girl because of my dumbass. This would probably slow the flowering process down seeing as it will try to repair itself right?
 
Yes did the same thing,it slowes down the whole plant,that being said it still produced some good bud just not as much as its sister that didn't get split and was treated the same thr out grow. Luck
 
potted, how long did yours take to repair itself? should i seal off air totally or just get it as close together as possible and run with it?
 
I happened to snap mine a while back trying to weave it through my built trellis. Just make sure to tape it quick and not let air in between the 2 split point otherwise it either won't heal or take longer to heal. Take about 1 week or so to heal up and sometime longer depending on how bad the snap was. Mine was snap in half and only held on by the outer fiber of the stalk. Took week and half and know there a huge knuckle.

I am on my first grow so I don't have the experience but from what I read and from my own first grow experience, that stem that broke or in this case the main stalk actually seem to produce better than the other branch that didn't snap. The knuckle kinda act like a reservoir or highway for more nutes that the plants need. Once that bounce back it seem to do better so don't sweat it to much. Nothing much you can do but wait for it to heal. You can add some potash (sp) or stem enhancer like RhinoSkin and that might help repair the break but I use that regardless so I am not sure if that will help. Anything to do with strengthening the stem would help is my guess.
 
I tie the broken ones together with pipe cleaners and just leave them be. In the old days when we pruned fruit trees we used to put tar on the cuts but that's kind of been phased out now as causing more harm than good. Takes a couple weeks and the wounded area will be scarred over and healed up. I almost always forget the pipe cleaners on there and catch them later on in flowering.
 
Taped as best I could and let it ride worked out well left tape on for the rest of grow as stem got bigger it broke the tape(I'm still amazed) and produced good size bud.
 
thanks for the info everyone. I remember doing the tar thing with my grandparents on their fruit trees when i was a kid. that is why i was asking about doing some sort of salve over the break to keep out the air and bugs.
