Lower branch instead of topping

The plant in the first picture is showing how I decided to save a few weeks by not topping a second time for four colas. Instead, I let the branches below where I did top grow. The growth on the lower branches is less than the topped.
Has anyone tried this?

I like to train clones this way. I can fill my 3x3 tent quickly with just 4 plants when I use this method. The lower node will give slightly smaller colas but it’s still worth it for me.
