Is this normal

They are both about 40 days old.. one was MLed the other just topped 3 times to give it 8 main colas.

Adding Mylar is no problem if you guys think it helps. I am willing to do anything to improve grows other than being a cheap SOB!

Yes i have done that in the past. I look at the plant and see if it's a good candidate for a cola without side shots. If its a plant that has short spacing between nodes, I will remove all the secondary colas, especially the lower ones. But if it looks like it's going to be tall with not many nodes i will leave the secondary colas to give the plant some body and get more bud sights. It's not rocket science, and just depends on how i feel about the plant. I do find that when i remove the lower colas the plant puts more energy into the tops and i get better buds from whats left. It's like growing tomatos,, do you pull off the suckers or let them grow out and have tomatos on them or pull them and get bigger tomatos but fewer. Either way, it's all good.

Good to know. I defoliated 6 times this grow but still had "suckers" coming from everywhere. Took a hard look at the structure so I would have a better idea what to get rid of next grow. Having so many suckers definitely had a negative affect on overall buds. Live and learn...

Gordo, if you LST early. The side colas will become main colas without topping as I will prove to you in my current grow I don't mean 'prove to you as in na na I show you. I mean it in a nice way. :o

I know everyone else already answered but the hollow stems are completely normal on a really thick or main stem, especially if it's old. Some strains do it more than others. The way plants drink is they evaporate water out of the leaves, and that pulls up water from the roots like a straw :)

That's why plants stop drinking water when it's humid - the water stops evaporating from the leaves. Even really small stems sometimes have little holes in the middle if you look close :)
