I’d been looking for a new lighting solution in my 2x4 tent for awhile and I’d been going back and forth in my head between COB’s and quantum boards. I finally made my decision and went with a DIY Quantum board fixture. After doing a ton of research on quantum boards I settled on a fixture of 4-HLG QB 132 V2 wired in series that has been quite popular on another forum. Here are the specs on the light and boards.
Boards: 4x QB 132 V2 3000k
(75 watt max per board/2000mA)
Driver: HLG Meanwell 320H-C2100a
Those of you that are familiar with DIY lights will see that I went with a driver that is slightly over powered for the boards I selected. The model driver I chose has an onboard current dimmer that will allow me to dial the driver back to a reasonable rate for the boards but still allow me to run the boards at their full rated wattage. Based on my research HLG is very conservative with their board ratings so I’m fairly certain I can run them at the max rating without any kind of premature failure. The driver will allow me to go as high as 360 watts and as low as 115 watts but I will be using the fixture in the 150-300 watt range. I’m currently running them at 250 watts. The QB 132’s do not require a heat sink and at this time I only have a 6†fan blowing across the top of the fixture towards my exhaust. Temperature in my tent has basically remained the same.
