Hey all hope everyone is well. I was wondering if anyone has run 1000watt bulb on a dimmable ballast at 600watts. The guy at the store told me it would have negetive effects on the life/longevity of my bulb. I don't know if he was trying to save me money or just make a sale. Is what he said true?

I know for a fact that there are no safety precautions to doing it. I dont think the bulb would hit the corect spectrum though with the partial power but you should still get the equivalent of 600 watt bulb outta the 1000.

Thanks... I figured he recommended the 600 watt bulb for a reason when I told him I needed to control the heat in my ⛺

Yeah sometimes its hard to trust that people arent trying to make a buck on you. The light should work just fine. Honestly I think it would be the opposite anyway. The bulb should last longer. Bulbs go bad because the filaments break down over a period of time from usage. 1000s are set up to handle a lot more incoming power so it would be likely the less power would actually degrade the arc wires faster getting less wattage.

Yeah I didn't intend on purchasing another bulb. But looks like I'll have too get an hps one too now since I only got the mh. Thanks again.

I ‘ve gdone the same thing with HPS...1000 bulb at 600. Get horticulture bulb 600 and run it at 600 on ballast . 1000 was too hot for me. Keep your adjustable ballast.
