How important is ph really?

It depends on what the process is that needs to be tested. If I am testing a buffer solution addative for intravenous amphotericin B infusion I would need an accurate and verified pH meter. In the garden the strips tell the story with plenty of accuracy. There is also redundancy testing. If the solution being made is the same formula as yesterday and the test is the same that is verification. When the formula changes and then the pH correction needed changes that is also validation. From reading this board for several years now, it is very frequent that when someone has a pH problem it can be traced back to a pH pen that has either not in calibration or has just drifted away from reality. Strips are easy.
Hello Ckbrew. I don't know how old you are or when you graduated from college, but I want to compliment you on your ability to put pen to paper and have it read like one of my old textbooks. From here its impressive! I hardly remember much anything these days and it bugs the hell, out of me!

I ph all my water but only with the General Hydroponics ph kit. I am used to the readings of color. I had a ph pen but it worked about twice and then would not calibrate. Too cheap to buy a good one . I can get by just by using the ph kit. The test strips I got do not appear reliable either.

I will say that I always used a 7ph buffer to check the accuracy of the ph strips when I used them. I just believe that we should use some sort of quality control when using any kind of testing. I'm almost sure most chemists will agree on the validity you have when using controls
