Harvest Window Confusion

So I am having sort of an issue with one of my strains.

The strain is The Black. It's an Indica dominant pheno. Its flowering period is suppose to be 10 weeks. I am currently in week 6 of flower.

1 of the plants is showing heavy red/orange hairs already. With curling in already starting as well.

The second plant is a bit further behind, it's just starting to get some orange coloring.

So heres my confusion is this too early. I pretty sure the breeding is correct, the leaves are turning very dark purple/black like strain info says. But they seem they are gonna be done way earlier than 10 weeks.

Nebula mentions a harvest window once hairs are like this but there is no way its only week 6.

Haven't started even checking yet cause its so early. I havent even checked my 8 week strains and they are closer. But even they dont have as many orange hairs.

They do look odd, very dark. 2nd one has a real burnt look to it. I’d worry about what thevtrichromes look like as far as harvest would be curious what’s causing that though.

Here is a pic from leafly of finished product..Hairs look pretty similar. Also leafly says harvest between 8 and 10 weeks. That is a large window imo. Everywhere else says closer to 10 weeks. Maybe its time to start watching triches on all 7 plants. Its just sad these plants really needed that extra time to plump. I hope this isnt them being ready. Its all popcorn nugs...

Curious what the trichomes look like and really think we need to see that before coming to any conclusions.

I use these factors to consider the "Harvest Window":

Most - to all hairs- dark and curled, with new hair growth slower than the rate of dark/curling.
Amber trichomes.

Once I see any ambers- the harvest window begins and I start feeding water/molasses only, then water only after a week.
The harvest window comes to a close once the plant reduces the amount of water uptake.

If you see gray trichomes, you have gone too far!

If you are using LED's the hairs and colors can get pretty diverse from what you read from the seed company- as everything is based on 5 gal containers under 1000w HPS lighting.
I also find that LED's are ready to harvest sooner by about 10 days.

Morning urbz, what I've found is, I've had a bunch of different plants with red hairs,, early, like within a couple of weeks, so the plants are all gonna be a little different.
I would strictly go by the trichs, as for harvesting, an by taking a sample or two ,if they are slow showing amber.
They don't all show amber, but most do.

I go for a rough feel looking at the hairs-and I can see why your thoughts are as they are-however it`s always the trichs that decide for me plus one week added roughly. The only thing I`d say is the buds look small and I would suspect that the set-up or a variation of the strain may be a factor here. It`s tricky cos you`re almost being forced against your instinct to harvest. I`ve had grows like these and quite frankly they are a real pain in the backside because you`re between a rock and a hard place. My advice, check your set-up and don`t get too hooked on what the flowering guidance states because that`s a variant in itself and just work on eyes/ trichs. Have your other grows/ strains run good? Hope it works out, mate

Hmm. Very interesting info. I am using leds sir.

Ive never heard about the plants under leds being done early. Kinda has me worried a bit. I am just now about 10 days before harvest on all my 8 week plants. Havent really started backing nutes down or flushing yet either because Ive been told that you should expect to take a bit longer than breeders recommended timeframe..

Should I start flushing all 7 plants in there. 🙄🙄

Yeahh after looking at stain pics the buds dont get large on this strain. You are right sir a rock and a hard place is a good description. Especially since this will be my first harvest, I really do not know what to expect. Its all a learning process.

Unfortunatley out of my 7 strains the 2 Blacks, the purple urkle and the grape god are from a local breeder. He sells fully rooted 4 node tall seedlings for 10 dollars each. He wont sell seeds and he asks you not to clone his genetics when you buy from him. He is old school been growing since the 80s. So anyway I have to take his word that the genetics are what he says they are. From pictures they seemed right on.

Its just been very confusing for a first grow. A lot of stuff thrown at me at once. 4 strains and 7 plants looks like all are nearing harvest at the same time.

So I checked all 7 plants today. From the looks most are clear on all 7 there are some cloudy triches but no amber in sight. The other 6 strains are further behind The Blacks on red hairs but all 7 do have them.
