Harvest Results After Moving from 315 LEC to Viparspectra LED (preferably 600 W)

I can get great yields with Viperspectrum 450s. But I now use 2 in a 2x4 area. The penetration is not as great as other lights. But they do make very trichome covered buds. And for the average grower one 450 is enough for a 2x4. For penetration I like 1000 watt hps/mh but I think the viperspectrum are a bit more user friendly for new indoor growers.

Now the viperspectrum do seem to put out more heat than higher priced leds and for sure the quantum boards. Which means its costing more for the same amount of light. Energy converted to heat instead of light. However when you compare a $120 450 viperspectrum to a $1500 or more led etc the cost is offset significantly
 
Good point Spidermite. In my case I was looking at two Viparspectra 600 w for my 5' x 5' tent. They would have come in at $400 for the two. I will admit that a lot of the pics for Viparspectra crops look nice and frosty. So there is the graph that they put out that looks like the light penetration really falls off the further one moves away from the area directly under the light, yet people are having nice harvests. I will have 4 plants in my 5' x 5' so I want max penetration for higher yields. But lights are just one part of our grow puzzle. I may opt for one Electric Sky 300 and use it with my 315 LEC. I could put them side by side and observe the differences.
 
That looks like a good one.
I would just say to make sure you have high ceilings with thst recommended 2-3 ft height above the canopy.
 
If memory serves me correctly uva is 400-320nm and uvb is 290-320nm.
I believe glass blocks anything below 300nm.
 
Oh was reading about cleaning the glass. Yes you do need to clean them as much as you can every so often. Hps and mh with glass can get really dirty. Just one suggestion, after you clean them raise the lights a bit. The glass can get so dirty that when you clean them without adjusting the height you can get light burn.

The lights you posted the link to looks good. For most the distance during veg may be a problem but I really like that they are effective at 4 to 5 feet away.
 
Yes, cleaning the glass is important. And never directly touch a glass bulb. My practice is with every bulb change, I hold the bulb with a paper towel, wipe the bulb down, and then clean the glass on my hood on the inside and the out.
 
That’s laminated glass that blocks out mostly all UV. Like on car windshield glass. I am talking standard window glass (think standard window in a building that is clear).
 
s62 Standard glass allows some UVB penetration. Here is what I was talking about. You can see that about 50% of UVB is will pass through glass just as easily as visible light. The rest gets filtered out.

Never seen that one until today, but it’s the rating is2.1 micro moles per joule on their website. That’s good, but the r-spec quantum board is still more efficient at converting electricity into light photons. They are maxed QB technology out at 3 micro moles per joule just this year.

Blue light is visible light. UV light is not visible light. Anyone telling you different, doesn’t understand the scientific principals. Therefore:would not make the purchase.
 
Happy I grow outside and don't have think about luminen and spectrum. It all there. I have grow indoor with a black orchid hps
 
Not exactly... do you grow in the mountains? Or at sea level? Somewhere in between? Spectrum (such as UV) is most definitely affected outdoors by elevation.
 
Good points as usual Toker1. The person I spoke to did not comment on the visibility or non-visability of the lights. Her point was that the blue light spectrum in these lights performed the same function as the UV does in other lights. Thanks. What I was trying to say was blue light is not the same as UV and it does not do the same thing to plants. Blue light is a different wavelength than UV is.
UVB (what increases THC) is between 280 nm and 315 nm, and has more energy. It is more energetic and fairly damaging.
