Half Pound Autoflower grow (First grow)

OzBud

Proven Grower (Check Signature)
Hey all, OzBud here.
I’m a ten year recreational daily bong smoker and first time grower.
After completing my recent grow I took a few pictures for my personal collection and after a while decided to submit some of them for the newsletter trophy picture. I was extremely surprised with how my grow went and so were Sirius & Nebula as they published one of my photos as the trophy picture in issue #234 Sunday October 9 2016. THANKS GUYS!!!
As a result of this I thought I’d come to the forum and give more information than I included in my original submission.

Below I have listed links to the actual products I used although not necessarily where I bought it from but rather the first/best place I found a link to it. I'm not saying you should use any of these products but this is what gave me my results.

Here is my half pound autoflower grow (60 days), I hope you enjoy it.

Two very different unknown autoflowering strains were sent to me from a mate. They were free seeds from an Attitude seedbank purchase. Was a mixed pack from Grass O Matic.

60cmx90cmx200cm DIY stealth cupboard (not super stealth but enough for my needs) I already had the cupboard and just modified it for a different purpose. This is the exact model https://www.bunnings.com.au/bedford-900mm-white-2-door-wardrobe_p2580849
No flat white paint or other reflective surface used just the melamine finish on the cupboard.

Light: 600W HPS light running 24/7
Lucaloxâ„¢ PSL (PhotoSynthesis Light) Tubular Clear LU 600W/PSL/T/E40 Bulk 1/63 44305

Reflector: Sea Hawk Large batwing pebble surface
https://www.eppinghydroponics.com.au/seahawk-large-silver-reflector-pebble-finish-ultra-lite.html
The reflector is attached by chains so it can be raised & lowered. Kept at maximum height for the first week, lowered to 1m for week two then stayed at about 50cm for most of the grow until the tall plant grew a little too close to the light and got a little bit of bleaching on the very top.

Extraction fan: IXL 170mm Ventair Exhaust Fan
https://www.bunnings.com.au/ixl-170mm-ventair-exhaust-fan_p4449333
Because of the location I need to have the cupboard I can’t have any external ducting to attract attention so it vents straight out of the top into the room with only one small piece of ducting internally. There are two windows in the room I can open/close to maintain a supply of fresh air and also help control temperatures as it was a winter grown in a place it gets down to -3 or -4C on a regular basis at night with severe frosts and maximums around 7-10C for the grow. Keeping the light on 24/7 helps keep the grow space warm enough all the time but I'm not sure how much it affected yield vs cost as lots of autoflower growers use 18/6 or 20/4.

Intake fan: IXL 200mm 8" Ventair Exhaust Fan

Intake fan controller
Sea Hawk temperature controller (thermostat)
http://www.hollandforge.com.au/contents/en-us/d160_fan_controllers_thermostats.html
Once the temperature in the cupboard got above 24C the intake fan started to push air in through the side of the cupboard. When the intake fan was off the exhaust fan pulled enough air in through the intake fan that the blades were always moving helping fresh air in.

Air circulation: Sunair BOX30S 30cm Box Fan

I've attached a rough diagram of the cupboard (hopefully it works as this is my first post but if not I'll figure it out)

25cm diameter pots
https://www.bunnings.com.au/homeleisure-reko-250mm-black-growers-plastic-pot_p2947486
next grow I’ll use 30 or 40cm pots for a bigger root mass as these ones were very impressive.

Substrate: Pure premium coco from the local hydroponic store, not mixed with anything

Nutirents: GH Flora Trio series

http://generalhydroponics.com/floraseries/

Supplements: GH CALiMAGic
http://generalhydroponics.com/calimagic/

I made a mistake when I submitted the trophy pictures. Here's a more accurate schedule. Plain pHd tap water for first week. 1.5ml per Gal of GH CALiMAGic PhD for week two.

I gave GH Flora Trio Series from week 3 as well as CALiMAGic at 2.5ml per Gal. GH Trio mixed at half strength of the amounts listed on the GH Drain to Waste schedule[FONT=&quot] found on their website, not the amounts listed on the bottle. Also a week later than the GH chart does as from my understanding most auto plants shouldn't need it before then. It also means the plants get veg nutes until pretty much all vertical growth has stopped rather than switching nutes at the earliest signs to do so resulting in a smaller plant like lots of first time auto growers.

I have also attached a copy of the DTW schedule and the custom one I used
View attachment feed.pdf

Fed nutrient solution daily. pH between 5.5 and 6.2 going in, never measured runoff. I don't have any ppm readings as I don't have a meter. Made sure to have 10-20% runoff every water to help prevent salt build up. Didn’t have any obvious nutrient deficiencies until the usual pre harvest flush.

No training or thinning of any kind (except a bit of thinning for photos just prior to harvest). Lifted smaller lady up with various objects so she was the same height as the taller one in the cupboard.

Temperature was pretty consistent between 22-28C for the entire grow, no idea about RH as again I don't have a meter for that.

Harvested at 60 days. Partly because I had a rental inspection and couldn't have he smell mostly because the pistils looked right. Will get a microscope for the next indoor grow.

  • 4.5 Oz good dried & cured buds from the short fat lady
  • 3.5 Oz good dried & cured buds from the taller more sativa dominant looking strain.
  • 3 Oz of dried & cured small buds & good trim for edibles
All weights taken after two weeks of air drying and three weeks of curing in glass jars.
All up 11 ounces of useable material from a first grow.

I gained all the information I needed from this website and many others as well as
The Cannabis Grow Bible: The Definitive Guide to Growing Marijuana for Recreational and Medical Use by Greg Green and The Cannabis Encyclopedia by Jorge Cervantes.

If you have any questions or comments post away! I'll post up some pics of the plants shortly

Im confused.. you say this was a 60 day grow,, but your feed scedual shows you grew them for 90 days. WUWT?

Thanks for pointing that out, I can see why that would be confusing. I didn't think to explain that.

The grow was 60 days from breaking the surface to harvest.

The feed schedule I just extended out to the end of the chart as they were unknown strains so I didn't know how long I would be growing them. Plus I can use the same chart with every grow regardless of length and just follow the chart and start the flush whenever it is needed not necessarily by the chart.
I fed to that schedule daily until 7 day flush before harvest.
7 days before harvest I put 10L of plain pHd water through each pot then watered plain pHd water daily still with 10-20% runoff then dumping the runoff.

Ok, got it now. Nice grow by the way. Very good for autos. I started growing 10 years ago with autos and still do some every year. But i got board with just growing and started experimenting with different styles of training just for the fun of it. The first MainLine i did produced 10.1 oz of dried buds off one plant. Check out my grow.
GORDO's MainLine grow.

Thanks. For my next indoor grow next year I think I might try Auto Masszar by Critical Mass Collective. Good yield and doesn't get too big (hopefully).

I thought I'd lost these pictures somehow but managed to find them. Most of the harvest before final manicure (I'd already put some of the best looking buds aside for the mate that gave me the seeds)
