Getting cuttings a different way

I'm new to cannabis, but regular plants I been taking cuttings with ease and wonder why I haven't heard of anyone trying this instead of buying all these so called guaranteed cutting grower potions. In the past, when I wanted a cutting but not the risk of wasting time, I would take a solo cup filled with very wet soil, no holes in the cup. I would then bend a branch from the plant I wanted, stick it in the cup and wait a week. Once I saw it had taken root, Id cut the branch and let the cutting grow on its own. I discovered this method when I was a kid and noticed one of my moms trees/plants would grow branches towards the ground, and the ones that laid in the soil, took root and grew new plants, so tried this with success on many other plants. Pine trees I failed miserably. Anyway, can this be done with cannabis?
 
Sort of. Not with very wet soil. And it will take more than a week. Cannabis doesn't root as easily as some other plants. Cuttings can root in soil but its low on the list of good choices. An aerated medium like perlite or coco or rockwool works well. Or cuttings can be rooted (less easily) in a cup of water only, but having a bubbler to oxygenate the water greatly improves the chances.
A cutting can easily stay alive for a month or six weeks as long as it has some moisture, but it will rot eventually if it doesn't root.
Cloning gel/powder isn't essential but it does help. It's not expensive. There are natural substitutes like willow and aloe.
Temps are very important - around 70 degrees is great.
I've tried many different cloning methods and my current favourite is in perlite.


You can root branches by bending them down into the pot so that a portion of the branch is buried in the growing medium, with the branch tip left sticking out of the soil. I'm sure this would root fine eventually. I've never done it, partly because by the time my branches get long enough to bend down into the pot like that they're too big to want to keep in the veg room for another couple weeks. And partly cause there are other easy ways to clone.

edit- oops -kinda stoned - missed what you were actually asking at first but i sort of answered it anyway.

Basically- cannabis isn't a plant that roots at the drop of a hat like a willow bush does. It won't grow shoots up from a bare stump like many plants and trees will. It's somewhat less vigorous than that.

It might work if you first made a little slit in the stem of plant so that a root could begin and then bend at slit. This is a very big might though.
 
What I meant by trying was taking a solo cup filled with moist compost and taking a branch after stripping the front leafs, and then inserting it once inch into the cup. In a week, maybe two cut the branch leaving about 8 inches of branch above the soil. I wanted to get cuttings mainly of my only GSC plant. BTW, the plants only feminized, not auto so was wondering, could I get this plant after it buds to go into constant vegetative and then bud state cycles or once this plant buds, that's it I got to toss it? I was hoping to keep it for many years.
 
You can reveg a plant after harvest, yes. It's not garanteed that it will work. I've revegged several and lost a couple.
Haven't tried the cloning idea you mention but I'd be inclined to use something fluffy and inert like coco, perlite, rockwool, or even peat moss ahead of compost. The high nutrient value along with a clumpy wet medium wouldn't encourage rooting, IMO. Worth a try definitely. Report back what happens ;)

I need to wait for my plants to get a bit bigger to try this, though when they are big enough, I could try using some Jiffy Pellets. I got hundreds of them so might as well put some of them to good use =)
 
If u have the time and the drive to make it happen i say go for it. worst thing that can happen is it won't pan out.in which case u can always smoke out n work something else out
 
The biggest reason I want to try it out with some of my plants, is the fact I'm having severe difficulty with some strains. Purple Hulk Auto-Fem, White Widow Max Regular, Thc snow-fem, Grape Kush regular, Ak47 regular, and Mazar Regular. These seeds germinate in a towel, but put them in a jiffy pellet, or regular soil and they just die. They aren't overwatered, though wondering if its a mold issue. They turn dark brown and get mushy inside. I'm trying to find some kind of mold preventative. 46 tablets, and only one Nelville Haze grew.
GSC, Pineapple Kush, Mango, Big Bud, Nelville Haze germination rate 100%, Plants growing healthy 100%.
The seeds I listed above I'm having issues with, I have not used any fertilizers, other than mixing some peroxide into the water.
 
I am an outdoor grower. In the past I have had plants where the stems hung down and contacted the soil. Some of these stems have taken root.

I took a few pictures of some sick plants. I also did a lot of reading up on different plant issues on the main Grow Weed Easy website. Out of every PDF book I own on the subject, GWE is quite informative, not to mention all the help you all have been giving me. Thanks too BTW. What I would like to know is if these pictures are showing a PH issue. The three in one test I have is showing a slight elevation and I just did an overnight order of PH down and a digital test kit for more accuracy. Anyway, please let me know if these pictures show PH damage.

A normal "white" light would help immensely.

I see the spots and blight. It definitely looks like ph from what I can see.

Thanks for the verification. I have the plants under two 1200w LED light panels. When you say normal "white" light, are you saying to use a regular lightbulb? I'll go read up on the light sets too in the mean time.

Yes a regular incandescent or cfl. The whiter the better.

Is this light supposed to replace the 1200w panels I'm using now or is it to work in conjunction with the LED Panels I already have set up? I'm also going to be revamping my setup in 4 to 6 weeks. I have limited space and discovered to my horror that the 2x4 grow tent is only 5 feet high. Figure in the fact my led panels take up about 8 inches of that space, that leaves me with the worst amount of room for the plants I'm growing at the moment, and that's not to healthy for my GSC which I have been caring for like a prized sports car. The Tent was supposed to be 2x4x6.5. I didn't catch on till it was too late and a month had already gone by before I put it together and found out. I had already left good feedback and was really only supposed to be temporary anyway. In about 4 to 6 weeks I'm putting together a shed that's about 12'x8'x10, and a large grow tent 10x6x8. I only hope I get this put together before the plants grow into the lights. Id rather not stunt their growth if it can be avoided.
 
I got the feeling RN was just saying that it would be easier to judge the problems in the photos if the photos were taken under a white light. I could be wrong. It's very difficult to see what a plant actually looks like when something has coloured it all purple.

Haha, yes, what weasel said. Just for pics :p sorry for not making that clear.

The panels are fine, by themselves but you can always supplement your lights in an attempt to mimic the sun's spectrum. I'm hoping to upgrade to some COB LED's some day... best spectrum yet. Heard nothing but great things about them.
