I've noticed a lot of new growers on here lately and I have a few suggestions for you guys on your posts. Please try to make just one post addressing all of your issues. A lot of you are posting multiple times (sometimes same topics) instead of consolidating everything into one post that addresses everything. Reason for this is it's easier for people who are trying to help to keep track of what's been suggested and avoids misinformation. Another tip, list as many details as you can in your post. If you are having multiple problems, put it all into one post as well as grow medium, nutrients (if using any), pH levels, temperatures, light type and wattage, pretty much anything you can about your environment helps a lot. Also, pictures, lots and lots of pictures (we like our weed porn around here) under the most natural lighting you have. This will help us to see the natural colors and help us to help you identify the issues more correctly. When taking pictures, take pictures of the affected area, as well as the full plant if you can. The more information you give, the more likely someone here will be able to help. We love to help but if we don't have all the necessary information, we won't be able to give proper advice. That said, welcome to the forum and happy growing!
 
I think the roots have much to do with the main audience. Sure, for folks that aren't fluent in English, language has proven to be a challenge. I also perceive that many people are young and inexperienced. Combine that with the intoxicating effects of actually experiencing your first grow and it's no wonder people might overlook sticky notes.

Another aspect - This IS a cannabis-centric platform, mostly a bunch of stoners from every possible background. The odds are fairly good some of us are writing "impaired". ;)
 
Agree with the language barrier. I can always tell when someone's post is Google translated to English. And it isn't a perfect system for translation and lots of sense gets uncommon when you translate. But I agree with this post 💯 percent. People have to tell us more than...my leaf has a yellow spot here is a picture of a single leaf, help me.
 
dphipps1020 Here's a draft of what we might want to post to new users. I took phipps' post and tried to make it easier to digest by breaking it down into 3 sections. All comments/criticisms welcome.

Thanks for all the positive feedback on this, I wasn't sure which way it was going to go lol. Yeah I scroll through multiple times daily and have seen a lot of repeated posts, or one person asking 5 questions on 5 different posts, instead of just one post with everything in it. It gets confusing to us on what was suggested. It can also confuse them more. They can post multiple times about the same problem and get 20 different answers for each post. That can be harder for them because, depending on the information, they can get different answers from the same person. Makes it hard to figure out what suggestions to start on in order to fix the issue. I won't lie, if I post an issue, or even just a question, I try to look at as many suggestions as possible before deciding what to try. It's much easier when you have one reply from each person, in my opinion. I like the edit alltatup I was going to put the blurple thing in but didn't lol. The language barrier I don't get bothered by usually. I know Google translation can sometimes be terrible but you just read it and read again until it makes sense, I know I do that. I actually love that people from all over the world are on here. It gives us all a chance to share experiences from all kinds of climates and altitudes. Actually that brings up a good question. Has anyone seen or heard if there is a better altitude range to grow in? Meaning do they grow better at sea level or higher elevations? My randomness for the day. Hope the grass is green and your days are cloudy everyone (all puns intended)
 
I’m going to throw this out there, some of you may not agree with me, and some of you may lay into me for it. I apologize in advance to anyone that I may offend but I promise you it is not my intention to offend any of you.

I think that having these standards or expectations of new growers is great but I also think that we as a community need to hold ourselves to the same standards and expectations when we answer their questions. Being knowledgeable is one thing, clearly communicating that knowledge in a helpful manner is something altogether different.

Everyone wants to be helpful and I don’t mean to discourage people from sharing ideas but I think it needs to be clearly stated when the advice is coming from a place of knowledge and experience vs. when it’s just an idea that’s being thrown against the wall to see if it sticks.

The worst thing we can do is to give a new grower advice that we’re not able to link to source material, done successfully ourselves, or plainly stated that it’s a hunch.

In the end the flow of information here is a two way street and we’re all responsible for making sure traffic flows smoothly.
 
Yes, punctuation is important. It can be the difference between helping your Uncle Jack, off a horse- or helping your Uncle jack off a horse!!!
 
Its actually the 4th sticky down the list, under Topics. Started by NebulaHaze. Question Posting Guidelines. I wonder how many folks have really taken some time and read GWE.com? There are some very basic questions, that need not be asked, if they only spent a bit of time reading and learning.
 
I agree, and I don't know why folks hazard guesses or add all kinds of technical jargon that newbies won't understand or be able to do.
 
homegrown I was thinking about this yesterday. As I've written many times on this forum, growing weed isn't easy, unless you want to harvest 5 grams of schwag. Being older when I started, I knew I had to study in order to do it right. I love to learn new skills and and use them best I can. The forum support has always helped immensely, as long as I could identify those who knew what they were talking about.

But if I hadn't read on GWE everything relevant to hydroponics growing, seed buying, how Cannabis grows throughout her life, what she looks like in every phase, how to deal with problems, how to harvest and cure, and what equipment I had to have in the grow room--well, my skills wouldn't have improved--which they have over 4 years. I'm nowhere near an expert master grower yet--maybe in 6 more years I'll be close. But I've learned a ton of information I know how to apply in the grow room and the cure closet. Right now I'm working hard on increasing harvest and potency. Grow after grow, I'm working on it.

Let's say that knowledge is like juggling: if I've got the rice boiling, I have to keep two balls in the air in order to make good rice: heat and time. How many balls are you juggling when driving? Maybe 6 or a few more: acceleration/speed, keep shifting view, being aware of other cars/humans, knowing it's safe to do whatever it is you're doing (turning, changing lanes, etc.).

Seriously: how many balls to we have to keep in the air during the flowering stage?
