First Coco Grow.

I think she's rootbound. Roots are similar to icebergs, much more going on under the soil than up top in early stages.

Pop it out of the container and take a peek...

UPDATE:

Ok, so i think she was rootbound but i think i messed up. I got my 1gal smartpots, rinsed out the coco and transplanted into the still wet coco (not damp but wet). I think it is now overwatered but am not sure. I transplanted on Friday and took these pics today. Over or underwatered possibly? I have not watered since friday and thought that i should just let it dry out. Thoughts?

What was your pH going and coming out of rinse? ??
i would let them dry a bit, see if they rally after shock of transplant too
also having done 1 gal pots I find the girls occupy that size pretty quickly.
they are nice looking plants...hopefully they perk up with their light.
 
Try sticking your finger in the medium mate, I just popped an auto for my first coco grow, she is still in a solo cup and I keep thinking it's dried out, cause the top looks so dry, but feels moist to touch under the top, hope this helps:)
 
yeah its really a temporary thing until I harvest my last plant in my tent which should be in like a week. It was bad planning on my part but it was rootbound in the pot i had it in so i decided to give it a little more room until i can pit it in the final pot which is a 3 gallon smartpot. It's all a learning experience.
 
it's definitely still moist. I'll just let it dry out. next time i wont transplant it into a medium as wet as it was...moist but not wet.

i hope she does well :) is a 5 gal home smart pot too big for your space?
 
This is my first coco grow mate and my girl has just opened up, very good to have a journal on here about 2-3 weeks ahead, I'm learning from this, keep it up thanks:)
 
Is this a stupid question, do you alternate nutes with ph'd water in coco? I ask because I know coco has no nutrition in it but what I put in, so are the plants starving when they just get ph'd water?
 
Will do Vapo! Thats why i do the updates, good or bad! MAybe someone can learn from my mistakes!
 
I plan on doing multiple plants in the future so i went with the 3 gal due to space constraints. I can probably get away with a couple 5 gal pots but because im not great at plant training i figured id start with this.
 
i read that you are supposed to alternate but my plant seemed overwatered when i did that. I think the reasoning behind it is because as the pH changes it stops absorbing nutrients and "locks" them in the medium and watering with plain ph water returns the ph of the medium to a point where the "locked" nutrients can be absorbed....not 100% sure on that tho
 
Yeah, that sounds right, I don't want to give too many nutes, do you put cal-mag in every watering too?
 
You can also put a fan close to the smart pot to dry the coco quicker but she will be fine. Coco has a 7.0 ph you can adjust your feeding water ph as needed. I use Cali mag every feeding with no problems.

My very first grow back in August i used an all perlite hempy bucket for 1 plant and a 3 gallon smart pot with a coco/perlite mix for the other plant. I won't use anything but coco/perlite from then on. It's easy to work with and the constant 7.0 ph is very helpful when a flush is needed if you get a sick plant. The plant was easily 3 ft. At harvest wroth no root issues.
 
unfortunately the grow area i have it in right now is a stealth grow box that i converted to a veg chamber and is really small that won't fit a fan. I did loosen the medium up a bit and it started to dry out quickly. I have since added a little more soilless medium to top it off and gave it maybe half a cup of nute water to re moisten the grow medium. Right now i think all i can do is wait for it to recover from the shock of the transplant.
 
not the plain pH watering in between "feedings" but maybe i should. I hadn't considered that....
 
Try superthrive if you can get it, it is supposed to reduce transplant shock cause it has sea kelp in it:)

So i made a huge boo-boo....Topped it at the 3rd node and cleaned up the bottom...but my stoned ass cut all the growth tips and left just two fan leaves.............I blame it on the sour diesel.....

Im pretty sure it's a lost cause but is there any chance of it sprouting new growth tips?

I feel sooo dumb:sad-frown:
