Oops!!! Unfortunately you are wong bro. quartz is insoluble at STP and can't change ph at all. Also Si has no known strong acid so if you raise temp to 400° and pressure to handed times of atmosphere to force water to stay liquid you still can't lower ph of water by quartz.

last comment I'm going to make get new medium that consists of cocoa and perlite you will have no issues you don't have to break out the science books you don't have to argue with anybody after you ask what's going on don't make it so hard.....

I used bricks for 1.5 yrs. Sunleaves, Roots and GH. all brands had to be soaked, broken up, hand squeezed . Same processTWICE to remove salts and sands. Then mixed with perlite. Last year I changed to Cyco Platinum Coco Coir bagged after trying various bagged cocos. I use 3 parts coco to one part perlite (Vigoro brand).
Currently the Cyco brand is best buffered out of the bag. Although I will pre rinse it sometimes. 1st run off was at 6.1. Pretty good and clean. Good texture too.
if one uses bricks it must be soaked, broken up, rinsed, squeezed two times.
All best done in a wheel barrow with lg tubs to gather the rinsed product.

When I've grown in coco, I've used pure coco and perlite. I just re-hydrate the bricks and add perlite. I live in a city, so I re-hydrate the bricks and mix it all in my bathtub in a giant fabric pot so nothing goes down the drain 
I adjust the pH of my water whenever I'm watering my plants. Even if you have some sort of pH buffer in the growing medium, you still need to check the pH on a regular basis because the type of water you have and your nutrients are going to affect the pH. The plant will get deficiencies if the pH is too high or too low at the roots.
Some people grow in pure coco, while others like to add various ingredients to change the properties in different ways. There are as many different potting mix recipes as there are stars in the sky, and no "best" mix Hope that helps!
