cloth bags for outdoor grow

Those are a good idea! I want to put a couple in the woods this year but start them inside first and I think this would be a perfect way to do it. What do you mean put “slices” in the bag?
 
I just read the description and the scary thing I saw is where it says they last a year before breaking down...I think a 1 gallon bag, might not allow the roots to expand? I think it's a good idea, but maybe a larger bag? As for the slices, I'm guessing you wanted to do that to allow some roots to get out of the bag?
 
I think it’s a good idea, I’m going to start my out door grow soon inside and wait till temps are good. I’m just wondering how long it takes before thay brake down? Would hate to pick one up only to have the bottom fall out!
 
Hey Ojh, yeah, those will do great, I'm fixing to get me some to try too, how did you find them ? Yes I know when I get mine I'm gonna slice the sh-t out of the bottom of them ,until I get used to them.It's getting time down this way.:funny::p:tasty:
 
The roots will grow through any fabric pot as they are designed to for the air pruning my first grow I did this indoor. Won’t do it again though as I think it stunted them a bit but I did have roots growing right through the 1 gallon inside the 3 gallon. They are cheap enough I’d probably just cut the bottom out place in the hole and cut around it I would think this would not shock them much. But you could cut a bunch of holes and be fine.
 
Ya, thats what I do with my peat pots, cut the bottoms out before I put them in there final pots.. Your right Locrian99, The pots are supposedly designed to have roots grow through them if they are planted in the ground. Id still cut out the bottom though. It just speeds things up a little.
 
Locrian99, I've placed SmartPots and several different types of fabric pots on the ground and left them, and a few roots will grow thru the pots, but if you want the million other roots to grow thru you better cut the bottom up.lol
 
I was trying to find this yesterday... this pot was literally just placed in a 3 gallon (I wouldn’t do it again) I then just yanked the pot out after harvest. There were for sure fewer roots outside of the 3 gallon as was stated if I was to do it again I’d cut the bottom out and poke holes.

Nice, that will help alot of people to solidify it in there minds. Some grow thru but not enough like we all want.
 
I agree with slicing the bags. That is what is done with burlap around a tree rootball even though tree roots can/will grow through burlap. Can't hurt...
 
I filled one of the pots yesterday just see how they looked wow they fill out to 6 inches around and are a bit taller the fabric is very thin you can tell they are a one time use pot I'll take a picture this morning
