Cloning question

Sirius and Nebula recently had an article about cloning cut off weed shoots in plain water. I did that once and it worked well, roots after about two weeks. I recently tried it again. They were in water for over a month. I was away for 3 weeks and came back. They were still green, and had started flowering but zero roots. Question: is there an age cutoff where root production for cloning does not happen? Can I clone cannabis during flower? I threw them out after about 8 weeks with no roots.

I would like to know that as well. I just cut a couple clones from my plant that is in its 2nd week of bloom (has budlets) and put in water. I will let you know what happens. I have never started a clone from early bloom before

I'm not aware of any age cutoff for cloning. I dip the cutting in Clonex gel and add juice from fresh aloe vera in the water. It contains hormones that stimulate root growth. I use an unconventional method. Clear solo cup with holes in bottom, filled with coco/p and cutting, then a second red solo cup on the outside. Fill the outside cup about 25% full of nute solution then lower the first cup inside. When roots are visible in the clear cup, ready to transplant to more coco. Takes about 2 weeks. As far as cloning in bloom yes it can be done. It will take some extra time because the clone will need to be re-vegged. The flower stretches out to make bud sites. Kind of like reverse blooming. Each of the little nubbins in the pix came from the stretched out bud. They need to be trimmed until regular leaves start. I once cloned an auto, it was supposed to be photo, even made a manifold. Then it just kind of stopped growing and got bud rot, never flowered.

Thanx for your technique Ckbrew. I will have to write that down. I won't be able to find it on the forum later

Let us know how it goes. Thanks for replying.

Thanks for the information. I’ll wait until my next plant in veg and try again.

I forgot to add that the inner cup is removed daily, let the water drain, dump the old water in the cup, add fresh nute solution daily, then reinsert the cup. Once roots are visible, the amount of water can be reduced.

The branches I cut for the clones were just a bit on the woody side. I scraped off a little of the flesh near where the callus will form in hopes of getting a good outcome. What you say Ckbrew?
