CANNABIS MEDICINE: The biphasic effect

oldjarhead100 I hope you find that the tincture really helps with leg pain: it sure does help with mine. Now that you have a NOVA, it's not hard to make and make it EXCELLENTLY!!!

No juice mixed into tincture! You want to keep the tincture pure. I put the half dropperful in a flat tablespoon I have, and then I add just a touch of orange juice maybe 2parts oj to 1 part tincture. It's easiest to do if you have some big spoon that will lay still while you put in tincture and juice. Then 60 secs under tongue before swallowing.

alltatup, I will be growing some high CBD varieties this spring and summer. Shall we compare our experiences? Especially with the tincture prep and resulting medical effects. Sounds like we use cannabis for the same reasons- pain/inflamation/insomnia?

Canyon Grower Yes, wonderful idea!! I'm collecting information from this topic, the ''favorite recipies" topic and the "decarb machine" topic. I'm keeping a journal with all my experiences with the tinctures, along with all the data I compiled on dosing. And there's my "CBD grow" topic. And Potted has also been talking about dosing and medicine.

So, yes, I can't wait to hear about your grow!! When you start, I should be close to harvest (in week 1 of veg right now).

One of my tinctures is: A little Cannatonic, Lithium OG Kush (THC 10-15%, CBD 1-5%), Iced Grapefruit (mostly sativa, but highly medicinal: good for pain, relaxation, anti-depressant), and White Widow (DP original, very good for relaxation and pain): their synergy is fantastic! It has a lot more THC than CBD, but I'm definitely feeling the therapeutic effects of cannabis /as tincture /as medicine.

Old dog here, looking for new tricks and kicks.
I'm a new member so I am hesitant to just start a thread for each question that pops into my head.
I haven't started my grow, I'm just trying to absorb all the info available here and bounce some ideas around before I commit. Since you and Alltatup are into distillation already I thought I'd ask if any particular strains lend themselves to being used as edibles and are easier to extract THC and other psycho-active compounds from. Please point me in the right direction as my slate is clean.

Morning Paracelsus, I wish i could help you with your question, but I'm an old dog myself an don't nothin about making that good stuff, but I know damn well Alltatup does, She's been making an studying that for a while, she can tell you some good breeds.
Oh yeah, you make a post anytime you want too, that's what this is for, and welcome to GWE.

Paracelsus I'd say that any strain you like would be good for infusing. If you need pain relief, something indica or something with lots of CBD.

I don't mess with edibles yet because they scare me--too strong, last too long--, but I do love my tinctures.

I'm growing for CBD also. Candida Cd-1 & also a higher strain THC to mix in with it. I haven't smoked on a regular basis for 30 + years and when I do I get freaked out. Then I got some CBD and some THC edibles that I could take as little as 2.5 mg THC and found that the CBD takes care of a massive amount on my anxiety and the THC mixed in really makes me feel at peace and slightly euphoric, really absolutely perfect. focused and on course feeling. Entourage Effect. it's an amazing thing for me.

while I am far from harvest I really look forward to taking up the weed again after so long but being in control of my blended CBD/THC intake.

PS, CBD will also replace my seizure meds. Doc told me to come off them a few years ago but I had a motorcycle and was afraid to be without them. Now bike is gone and I'm coming off the meds and going natural. BTW, high CBD can counteract the anxiety of high THC dosage so if you find yourself too high again and want to come down a little bit, ingest some pure CBD under your tongue or smoke extra high CBD strain

Cronk That is so awesome!!! I know with the tinctures I just made that the THC is way strong and there's not enough CBD to balance it, so I take a small dose and get less pain relief but get a manageable high.
This is the great thing AND the challenge of cannamedicine: finding which combos work best for each one of us. No one size fits all.

ATU. Awesome info as I read through the thread and thanks for sharing your knowledge..

I believe there is a way that we can make tinctures using coconut oil, our material and slow cooker. I will poke around on the internet for that info..

I have some CBD tincture that was made that away it actually very tasty to say the least, maybe too good when we want 2nds and 3rds..lol

In any event, yes be very careful when you start making the edibles. I made some back in 2012 all willy nilly like, with no ideas on strength or amount per serving etc. Just made up some canna-butter and used it as the direct replacement in some box brownie mix. Heck I ate 1 and after 5 mins and no effects, ate a couple more. Thinking I had messed it up since no desired effects, I jumped in my car to run an errand, bad mistake.. HOLY BUCKETS, after about 40mins, I thought I had taken a hit of acid. I literally had to pull into a parking lot and sit for awhile. That was NO BUENO.. Funny to me now as I look back, but I assure you it was not when it was happening..lol

Is that a Banana Spider or Golden Orb Weaver in your profile pic, I get them confused?..lol.

Thanks again for sharing..

Sockfilter No more edibles for me, thank you very much. I just harvested in November, was growing 8 strains, and I decided to eat some of the trim in around the second week of flower. As far as I was concerned, all I was doing was eating some dark leafy greens like kale, spinach, watever. I was sure that there wouldn't be any psychoactive effect, and boy was I wrong. I got high as heck all day, couldn't believe how high I got. No one was really able to explain to me the potency of the leaves in the second week of flower; I think there's a total gap in the research at this point.
So I kept freezing bags of sticky trim, giving it to friends who'd eat it in the morning and stay high as heck all day. When I harvested, I took all the fresh trim and dried it, took the frozen stuff out and dried it, and made a tincture that I call 8 ball (for the 8 strains).

This woman has fantastic recipes: https://wakeandbake.co/cannabis-recipes-2/easy-cannabis-recipes/
I read a bunch of different websites, because there's a lot of misinformation out there, so I compare to get the most accurate data. I also purchased a decarb machine, which I think is the key to unlocking all sorts of amazing cannabis mysteries. Because once it's been perfectly decarbed, no more heat need be used to make oils, tinctures, etc. I decarbed all of my harvest after initial drying, and it smells incredible. I put it in jars with Bovedas. Like flash-drying fresh flowers: the terpenes are so strong, no degradation whatsoever.

I haven't tried oils yet, because I kind of want to avoid the whole "first pass" metabolism thing. I read this article
http://profofpot.com/11-hydroxy-tetrahydrocannabinol-potency-edibles/
on what happens to THC when it goes thru the liver, and I realized that's what happened to me when I had a bad edibles experience back in '06 or '07. Just like you described: a friend and I baked some herb, ate it mixed with honey, nothing happened, had another tablespoon each. Nothing happened, so I went home and went to bed. I woke up so high and stayed so high all day... uncomfortably, dizzily, disorientatedly high. I remember what a relief it was when I knew that it was really wearing off.

It's true that I swallow my tincture after holding it under my tongue for at least a minute, but by that time I don't think there's much good stuff left in it.

That is a Golden Orb aka Banana spider, they flourish where I live and I adore them. I have one now who wove her web right by my back door so she's staring me right in the face when I leave in the morning. I put up a sign DO NOT BOTHER MY PET SPIDER for the delivery people.

Alltatup, thanks, man. It's great to have found this medicine, AND I can enjoy being a bit high again.

Infinite CBD makes a 5000Mg CBD isolate dropper. 12 mg per drop. That plus a manageable THC hit and talk about pain management. It's right there in the pocket. something about the two working off each other. Hopefully the Candida can supplement the purchase of the dropper. I'll hit you up with diy tincture info for sure.

Nice ATU, yes I certainly did not like my first time edible experience..

Thanks for the wake and bake link, will give it a read. I do agree with you on the decarbing as I was under the impression that it activates the THCA or something along those lines, likewise it sorta made sense to me that getting the right temp with the coconut oil and trim did the same thing, however I admittedly have not checked out the latest trends/discoveries and we know we can't go wrong with the everclear based tincture. The molecules have to totally suspended in our base and remain stable, high proof alcohol allows for that while pulling off the good stuff of the plant material. Also the freezing you do helps remove the trichs, sorta like making bubble ice hash or dry ice hash.

Yes I hold my tinctures under my tongue for as long as I can much like you and swallow as well, seems to be the best practice.

I have heaps of bananas and orbs (I thought there was a difference in them like Indica and Sativa, same species just tad difference in genetics) around here as well, during the spring, summer and make it till at least Nov, easy for me to count 50 just off the deck, several like to lounge by my hammock/medication area, I name them as well.. Funny how they seem to live the longest...lol.. Have you found their egg sacks yet, really cool, about the size of walnut, looks like a smooth walnut, and suspended in trees, plants etc.

Thanks for the info and the covo..

My understanding is that the freezing for alcohol extraction is more to minimize the amount of chlorophyl that is transferred to the alcohol than anything else. The alcohol easily dissolves the triches no matter the temperature.

Aloner I didn't know that. My tincture turned out dark green, but it doesn't matter to me--and that was with the 190 proof Everclear...
