Anyone making tinctures?

transcend

Hey all,

I've been toying around with the idea of making a tincture with my trim/popcorn. Until now I've just been chucking the trim or giving it to a pal who makes BHO, and giving the popcorn to my partner's brother who grinds it and mixes with tobacco (sacrilege!). Now I'm thinking I could be doing something constructive with it, but I can't be bothered with all the extra processes required for making edibles that have a somewhat measured dose in them.
After doing some reading on green dragon I thought this might be the go - just decarb and steep for a few weeks in high strength alcohol (the drinking kind), strain and you're done. Dosing seems simple enough with a dropper, start low and dial in the right amount for tolerance.
It's pretty hard to find Everclear where I live (outside U.S. - and it's expensive as hell), easily accessible alternative is 85% (170 proof) absinthe that seems strong enough to provide a decent extraction, and maybe an interesting flavour too.

Anyone had any experience making/consuming tinctures or similar? Any thoughts/insights would be much appreciated 😁👍🏼

Here are two options I've used: tincture and hash. Both are very easy processes, with excellent results.

1. https://forum.growweedeasy.com/forum/growing-community/463779-trim-bin-redeems-itself-gathering-kief

2. TINCTURES: USE COMPLETELY DRY cannabis

1. Decarb bud: don't grind it; try to mess with the buds as little as possible all the way through this process. I use the Ardent Lift machine to decarb bud and preserve terpenes.

2. Put the decarbed bud in a baggie and put your Everclear 190 proof (EC) separately in the freezer. When it's nice and cold, you're ready to combine them. I put the bud in a mason jar and cover with 190 proof everclear. Pour until bud is just covered; if the bud absorbs the alcohol, pour until you have just submerged buds. The more bud you put in, the stronger the tincture will be; I don't cram the bud into the jar; I put around 15-20 grams in. You don't want a weak-ass tincture, so don't overdo the EC. Buds should be completely submerged in the alcohol.

3. This is for making
Green Dragon tincture, which is full of everything good the bud has to offer. Since you're making tincture, you can leave the bud in there for a good long time (as opposed to making concentrates, where you don't want the chlorophyl and other plant material contaminating the tincture). With tincture, I want everything to infuse into the alcohol. Store in freezer and shake occasionally. The longer you let it soak, the more magical it becomes. In fact, you can leave the plant matter in your main jar and just strain off enough to fill your dropper bottle.

3. I've used tincture after 7-8 days and other times I let it sit for three months. I can't say whether or not it's stronger after longer; it's all good. Store the tincture in in the freezer: it will keep indefinitely in the cold and dark.

4. Titration: start with a low dose and work your way up to the amount that works for you. I take my tincture very early in the morning so that the strongest part of the high has worn down by the time I have to go to work; then I'm relaxed for hours afterward. The intense high lasts for 2-2.5 hours, and I find it to be the best high for me--way better than vaping. I like its intensity and how long it lasts. You'll find the high you like by starting low and working your way up. A dropperful from your dropper bottle will not fill the dropper up, but it will have around 25-30 drops in it.

5. I squirt the tincture into a 2 tablespoon spoon and add a little tea or soda or some other liquid so the EC doesn't burn. I like it best on an empty stomach. If you eat a little bit of fat with it, this will enhance the high:

The cannabinoids THC and CBD are lipophilic, meaning that when consumed, they need fats to dissolve and become bioavailable to humans. They work with the fatty tissues and endocannabinoid systems in our own bodies to enhance the effects.
When you inhale cannabis, the cannabinoids go directly from your lungs to your bloodstream, but when you ingest cannabis, it’s broken down in your digestive system. So when you eat fat-dense edibles, absorption is increased.
Not all fats work the same. Saturated fats, which are mainly found in animal products, work better than plant-based fats because they are made of long-chain fatty acids. https://www.montereycountyweekly.co...cle_069ff428-dcd3-11ea-bd43-e311987de287.html

DROPPER MEASUREMENTS:
A one-ounce bottle holds approximately 29.5 ml, 7.4 teaspoons, and approx. 900-1,000 drops. When you squeeze the dropper, it won't fill up all the way, but that's the dosage I like: one dropperful, which is around 30 drops.

I make an oil tincture using MCT oil. It is very good. And extremely simple. But I think you are talking about Alcohol.

Thanks! That takes me back to high school chemistry class haha. Don't really have the disposable funds to get a setup like that going at the moment though!

I've also read that if you take the tincture sublingually (under the tongue) and hold it for about 30s before swallowing it will absorb through the mucous membranes into your bloodstream faster than ingesting it, ~10-15mins to start feeling it. The high doesn't last as long as ingestion and isn't as intense though apparently.

Can anyone confirm/refute?

Bingo, bango, bongo. Put ingredients in freezer for 24hr. then combine and shake vigorously. I use press bags to contain plant material and then let it drip dry. Because I literally cannot take the pain dosing sublingually, I mix my tinc in yogurt, with a little extracted weed two hours before lights out. And I do mean out.

Hi GWE folks,
Just swinging by and I stumbled onto this thread. I'm a huge tincture fan with a "Library" of dropper bottles from nearly every strain I've grown.

I hope it's not rude to barge in here with a link to another site, but this lengthy thread has pretty much everything known on the subject. It has techniques, options, even recipes for drinks & munchies.

PS, here's a tip: Add a dropper or two to a glass of red wine sometime... Lol

I have been doing the green monster method for the last couple years of trim and bottom buds. Super easy as you described.. Cook it down like a wine reduction for RSO. Then you can use it in many forms. The tincture under the tongue is rough. It's still grain alcohol 😳

Using MCT oil instead of alcohol makes tinctures much easier to dose, and the taste is way better. I’ve also found that using decarbed kief instead of flower gives a stronger effect with less plant taste. If you're looking for a cost-effective way to make tinctures, Bulk CBD has some great options for high-quality hemp flower and concentrates that work perfectly for infusions and extractions.
