About to enter flower cycle- questions pre- flip and update Week 5 from Seed

I am about 5 weeks from sprout on my 6 feminized white widows, C+, Golden Tiger, and GSCookies. Plus 2 autos- 1 Blueberry 1 C-47. I've decided to dedicate the main tent for now, for the 12/12 girls- because the autos wont benefit so much from less light, ill wait and grow out my girls before I decide if I will stick to autos only- or a mix.

It looks like golden tiger was effected by something, and slower to go, so I will keep her under veg, as well as the cookies to get more nodes before I flip her.

Everything transplanted to final pots except 2 x WW. All in 3 Gallon pots, 1 in a sunflower seed bucket- ( 3 G ) and 1 =5 gallon home depot bucket- going to experiment here. Let it grow no training or training - unsure

I will keep 2 x widows in veg- and experiment. I will keep the other 4 widows in the 12/12 but before I flip.....here are some questions...

1) If I just top one or two of them when they are about 10 inches and 6 + nodes, should I wait 2 weeks or less before I flip? Will the cut slow the flowering or even stress her out creating less harvest?


2) Since I have material, I can pull her out of the 12/12 and wait 2 weeks- and flip the other girls in a day or so, - during the first week or two into flowering ( considering 60 day cycle ) I can train the crap out of her- LST etc right? At what point do you just have to let her go- and just deal with canopy penetration issues and or tying stems to sticks and airing things out etc... ?

Here are a few pics of the setup today.

What started out with 2 tents on a bench in a shed
Evolved to insulated shed- and weather problems
Evolved to creating a 4 x 8 x 6' tall reflectix room

Current Room has 4 x 4 x 5 tent inside room opened usually- about to be closed for 12/12
Has 2 6" PC fans pulling air- one through duct to behind enclosed tent- allowing cool air to fill that back space-
Has 3 4" PC fans pushing air out of the top of the 6' tent. I hope I am creating enough air flow - things as you will see appear to be flourishing.
Has large fan blowing inside of enclosed tent- and smaller fan blowing around the air in the open area-
Additional fans and lights as needed

1 x 4 bulb 100W T5HO for veg in open area
1 x 450W LED that I hung open air and moved the AUTOS into that open room area ( has literally at least 5' of growing height- which I hope to avoid
1 x 300W LED in the enclosed tent with a DIY not going to work but does suck out hot air attic fan- which I am thinking of hooking up as an exhaust or intake...


Last but not least- I need a carbon filter soon. I knew there would come the day- and its coming.

meant to add pics from phone via edit-- doesnt look like it helped. So buckets and pots of gold. second pic- high up shot above T5 and 450 LED 3rd pic is the C-+ photo girl who grow an inch last night. She I am thinking of topping and then letting grow out- beautiful me thinks. then a few other shots- one of the flower power. no idea what to expect but shes grown taller x 2 over the week. bud zones- counting about 10 are stretching up as far as they can. Any suggestions, comments to help - are helpful.

You threw a lot of info out in that post. Here is what I'm addressing. I would not top and then immediately throw it into flower. Let it develop some side growth first. And yes, at some point you just have to let her go and it if you start to get colas that are growing too high, try to bend them down and away. As far as light penetration, that is where strategic defoliation comes in. You will notice a lot of new cola sites developing once you do the flip. Just try to keep them exposed and keep long leggy colas bend gently down, no more than a 90 degree angle.
 
No- not touching any autos. They are trained and I let them go right now. The topping on the pic with the butane torch -for example- shes primed and ready to top. And topping 2 of the 4 widows which are fem
 
Damn, I said that backwards. I meant you were NOT talking about topping the autos. I have this problem with my brain and my flying fingers (I am a fast typist) do not stay in sync. I try to always proofread before I hit the post button, but sometimes forget.
 
So thats the plan then- topping a few girls tonight- leaving some alone- to see what happens. Its all about experimenting right!?! With the pre-work I have done- I can actually hone in on something here- Im afraid of starting a 12/12 with some girls- waiting 2 weeks and tossing the topped ones in there- by the 2 weeks- the girls in the tent will be out of control might now have room :) Gosh too many options right
 
Yup, it's just a matter of preference. There's several ways to train your plant, as long as you maintain your objective and no harm comes to the plant, you will succeed.

Half the fun in growing is trying new things. I hope I never get to the point where I run the same style over and over again. Sounds a lot like work. If this ever becomes like a job, I might as well work more and hit the dispensaries.

That's a great setup you have Chemichael. Do you find the autos need more light than the photos? I have some autos I just harvested with some photos now on 12/12 flowering. Would it hurt to start new autos with the 12/12 then increase to 18/6 after the photos are harvested? Just wondering if you'd any experience with such?
 
Im personally going for a 20/4 light for autos- no matter what. No variance. Or 24/0 at times when I want to work on timing things :) the side tent is definitely for photo girls- but in the near future I can get rid of, and just use my room filled with LED lights- and autos. BUT YMMV.... if you are not mothering and training and just waiting for autos to turn, Ill miss out on the other nurturing aspects and grow periods and cycles of normal plants.
 
For the update / record- I ended up topping 3 photos. 2 WhiteWidow and 1Critical + And I Fimmed 1 WhiteWidow- they are all responding well. Once you TOP the plant, you reveal some neat opportunities to train 4 colas right off the bat. I am seeing at least 4 zones very close together that will flower... cant wait!

The FIM looks neat also. Shes already pushing growth out of the wound, and her sprouts that I cut, seem to be growing. am i crazy?

Now I am setting my time for 10 days or two weeks- depending on how they all look before I flip to flower. The next couple of weeks are going to be hairy for me :)
 
Pics above are the size at which you topped to?
how big were they...how many nodes and to what node did you top to.

I have one growing and am gathering all info...
 
The C+ grew at least 6 nodes. I topped her at the 3rd node.
White widow #1 was topped at the 4th node and had alot of tiny internodes going- so I felt why not- She was about at the 6th node as well.
White widow #2 was topped at the 3rd node and I cut some leaves and branches below- leaving very little.
White widow # was fimmed at the 4th node- above the 3rd node. (dur right)

These were small bushy girls- under T5 for most of their lives and all were between 5 and 6 weeks old from seed. I could have waited till they stretched some more- or got taller- but if I did something right, I got them short from the lights and tight from the internodes between all stems..

The larger plant with the torch was at least 1-2 inches taller than the pic when I topped her- shes the C+ Her leaves are growing outside of the pot- and she looked so good but I had to top her because of the bud potential right!! I'll add as much info as I can here too- because I hope we all learn from things-
 
Ill measure tonight. Ill even take a pic of each one to give you a top and bottom view. These girls are really nice- and damn just the beginning of this hobby is making me a fanatical grow nut.
 
Also of note, Lets say whitewidow 3 was not even 6 nodes, I fimmed her anyway. Basically what im saying for an apples to apples comparison, I wanted to top and FIM these 4 plants regardless of nodes, strength or height. Since lord knows when they start to flower, whatever I see now will be entirely different.
