Can household LED lights be used?

I'm a fairly new hobbyist grower, just flowering one plant at a time. So far I've used a CFL setup, but was thinking about adding some LEDs.

Can 90W 3000K household LEDs provide usable light to my plants? I've been told they can work but I haven't had any luck finding much evidence online.

Has anyone used them and had success? Thanks!

I use 4 100w in my tent to supplement my 400w LED grow light. They seem to work well but i dont know how they would do as a stand alone light sorce.
if you use them, keep them 18" from the plants to start with.

That is what I am thinking of doing. I will still use my CFLs. I just want to add a bit more light while keeping the heat produced and electricity used to a minimum.

That lamp should be fine for additional coverage. I add some cfl's to supplement my grows and it helps to fill out the lower sites.
        WHAT???
        5x5 grow space
        900w of Vero's and F-strips
        4-17gal totes self-made UC system.

Yes they will work- I use them in a space bucket for clones/seedlings etc.
That said: the actual wattage is very low- but the efficiency can be increased by removing the cover over the LED's.
It pops off and gives more directed light. By mindful it may expose the wires in the center of the circuit board the LED's are mounted on.
It's all bullshit - until you smoke it!
