    COCO COIR New Grower

I just wanted to introduce myself.. I am new here. I am growing currently in a 2x2x4 tent. I have seeds that just germinated from ilgm.. I germinated three Tokyo sweet seeds and just put them in their pre-grow pots. I have them in the tent.. my light is on a 16/8.. I have the light set at about 50% right now as it is an upgraded spider farmer unit. The plants are growing in a 70/30 cocoa/ potting soil mix with a bit extra peralyte added for drainability. I will take the best two of the three and put them in 2 gallon fabric pots. I have grown in the past and it was in this tent.. unfortunately the plant did not work out well as it was moved multiple times. It is now and it's permanent position.. running about 80° Fahrenheit and about a 60% humidity. I just wanted to introduce myself and throw out what I was doing.. as I am new and I am here to learn.

Hello Con420grow Welcome aboard. Whatcha feedin' your weed? Are you checking the PH? I just learned a hard lesson and may be a little sensitive about high humidity, 60 RH is OK for veg but be very careful running that in flower, especially late flower. How are you venting your tent? Check out the Growing Basics tab at the top of this page. You've come to the right place. Everything I know about growing weed I have learned at Growweedeasy.com and this forum. There are some good folks here that really know their stuff.

I'm feeding it Fox Farms. And on my last grow I was in full flower and I got stupid and fertilizer locked.. even in cloth and flushing they were not savable. Today I have an official sprout. I am running air in the tent through the spider farmer charcoal fan. I have a full spider farmer setup with the 200 watt light

Have you looked at the GWE site for the Fox Farm feed charts? Nebula has a few posted over there. Don't be afraid of coco. It's very forgiving, but it needs to stay moist. If I did not grow in the autopot system I'd use a 70/30 coco/perlite blend for the aeration and the fact that it is almost impossible to overwater coco. I use a 5050 blend in the autopot system. Just pay attention to the basics, provide a good environment and you should be just fine.

      So, here's my suggestion.

Do away with the mix....just grow in the coco...bit of perlite great idea if growing autos or time constrained.

      Why?

How can one calculate the pH of the medium and at what points on the scale are nutes available or locked out in your mix? We dont know the answer to that but we do know if just in coco. So keep it simple.
      Flower Room: 11' x 7' x 7.5'H, 480w AC, 13gal/day dehumidifier, 1.5gal ultrasonic humidifier, 60gal (27gal usable) nute tank, 16" pedestal fan & 18" wall fan. Lighting and climate automated. Hand watering.
Veg Cupboards: Two 4x2x6H cupboards. SF2000 Evo in one SF7000 in other. Climate controlled and automated. Hand watering
Aeroponics Low Pressure Bucket: 20W LED. 5 clones & 20W LED 11 clones
Lights: Mars Hydro FC-E1200W, SF-7000, SF-2000 evo in flower room.
Medium: Coco/perlite, 7.2gal pots, no drains
Current Grow: 5 x Photos Franklin's Orange Zkittles x Sour Diesel in flower room, 3 Franklin's White Widow x Sour Diesel Clones, 13 x Orange ZkittleZ x Sour Diesel clones in Aeroponics buckets x 2.
      Last Grow: A mix

I like the idea of straight cocoa, but I'm afraid of too much drainage and ending up not feeding my plants enough. But I'm here to learn I don't know everything and I really don't know anything to be honest.

You are so right the kiss method is the best.. but it's so easy to go off beat with this. I'm sure you understand especially as a young grower. But I'm an old guy

High frequency fertigation is the key to highest yields in coco.

Watering (fertigation) is only required 1 to 4 times a day depending on plant size, pot size and environment. In the early days once every few days.

Setup an auto watering system. Don't flood your tent.

            Hi, Con420grow!
Old guy here, too. Love 50/50, coco/ perlite and General Hydro nutrients used at Nebula's half strength recommendation. Never ever had a failed grow (in greenhouse). Have to give it away. You can't go wrong following this grow set up.

Generation Jones 1954-1965. Turns out there a little sliver crossover generation between boomers and Gen X.
