1st time indoor grower here - hows bad is the smell really ?

    Hi guys,

amazing community have learnt so much from all of you before I even got the set up !

Im a first time grower as the title suggests. I plan on running 60x60x180cm tent with 200w dimmable LED.

I have an PrimaKlima active carbon fitler with 1,9kg carbon and 440m3.

I plan on having ona gel in front of the lung room.

Im very curious - how intense is the smell ? I understand that when I will open the tent the place will reek.
But otherwise does the carbon filter really completely trap it and the room the growbox is is is odorless ?
If you, experienced growers, could share some info id be beyond grateful.

you need to vent it outside. or your house will stink like weed.

I have a lung room (spare BR w/ zoned HVAC) ) with 4x4 and a 2x4 tent in it. Both vent into the lung room. Both have AC Infinity exhaust fans and charcoal filters.

I've never used Ona. Be careful with it if you use it, especially in late flower. Your weed can absorb the aroma from the Ona.

My house does not reek or smell of weed. If I leave the tents open and the lung room door open, then, yes, the smell leaks out into a hallway a little bit. But with the door closed and the tents closed, no odors at all.

Thanks a lot for the reply. Ona will be infront of the entrance doors to the apratment, just in case.

As long as you run negative pressure in your tent all the exhaust will flow through the filter. That should eliminate all smells. I to have 2 tents in 1 room and as long as the tent is closed there is no smell. As golfnrl said be careful with the ona gel.

Some strains stink worse than others. If I grow Blue Dream, Durban Poison or Bruce Banner I double filter the grow with a filter inside the tent and another one outside at the end of the exhaust line bc one filter isn’t enough to contain the smell. Some strains barely have any smell at all. If you’re smart and time everything right nobody will ever smell anything

Hm interesting so basically 2 carbon filters one on each side of the exhaust ventilator - does this affect the volume of air that is being sucked out ? Do I need to set the vent higher - I would think not but not sure.

Thanks alot for the reply !

It won’t hurt the fan, mine run 24x7. I always vent out of the opening on the top of the tent

A first time grower probably doesn't have a "lung room" and hasn't figured everything out yet. Smell is going to be an issue. Venting outside is an easy way to overcome the stink.

The " lung room " is just the room your tent is in . If the tent is inside you have a lung room.

I didn't know what a lung room was until I found this place. Most everything I know about growing weed I have learned at GWE and this forum. Don't let the terminology turn you off. If you have a question, just ask. There are no dumb questions. Someone on this forum will most likely have an answer. And you can expect some smart@$$ness and friendly humor along the way. But the main thing is learning and understanding how to grow great weed.

It all depends on the strain. Some stinks like cat piss, while others smell really nice. I don't vent my Pot smell. Although weed is legal in my state.

Thanks for the advice - from my readings I should avoid the diesels, cheeses and skuns right ?

Have a look at this it may help
If you're growing for yourself, you might prefer to grow cannabis strains that are particularly known for having a relatively mild or weak smell. The truth is that basically all cannabis plants will stink a little by the time you get to harvest, but some strains are worse than others!

Ona tar doften .
