Went on lunch with a guy at work, stopped and grabbed some of that crap at a head shop. Don't buy it. Chemical flavor and felt horrible. I kept what he gave me but only as a reminder to not use it.

I tried 2 diff ones a cpl years ago, 1 was only $29.99 an oz. the other was that price for an 1/8, both worked A LITTLE but tasted weird and the resin it left in my pipe was strangely plastic looking. 1 looked and smelled like it was sprayed or dipped in something. BE CAREFUL

THC-A flower? I don't know what that is as a product, but all dope is THC-A flower unless it's old, cured, or been decarbed.
Sounds like a gimmick.

I think the TCH-A flower thing is an attempt to exploit legal loopholes while still selling a product that people are convinced that they want and will provide a psychoactive effect.

Maybe someone is adding crystals to bud? Like moonrocks? Here's a thing. THCa is a crystal, yeah? If someone is rolling buds in crushed up crystals, so what? Save the manufacturing costs and sprinkle your own bowl. Otherwise, the only other way to add THCa to bud is to melt it. Heat melted THCa crystals are hard to work with and would get super clumped if bud rolled. Solvent melted would be the other melting method but dipping bud in a solvent-full melted crystal solution sounds icky. A couple mentions of funky tasting 'THCa flower' might be solvent made?

YEAH DabberDog , there was def. something funny about 1 of the 2 i tried, tasted funny, felt waxy and left some plastic looking crap in my pipe, same site also sells small buds dipped or sprayed with sticky white shit called snow balls. can't be healthy. added later-I know thca turns into thc when heated, so what in reality is the diff between internet weed and the weed we grow. I need someone to explain this to me in plain english

Here's something interesting. Take a THCa crystal and put it in high proof ethanol. It won't melt. Not until you decarb it and lose the acid will it. Only people who have thought to wash their terp sugar and terp diamonds for cleaner crystals care. Which is probably only me.

What is THCA Flower?

THCA flower, or THCA hemp flower, is flower sold as federally legal hemp. It is the same species, Cannabis sativa L., as cannabis. There is some debate about whether there is only one cannabis species or three species, but this is beyond the scope of this article, as the authors are not scientists. And hemp flower is used exactly like cannabis flower – it is smoked to obtain a psychoactive effect. The difference between THCA flower and cannabis flower is purely legal.

What is the difference between THC and THCA?

To understand the legal status of THCA flower, you need to understand the difference between tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA). THC, which is the primary psychoactive molecule in cannabis and is responsible for the plant’s intoxicating effects, does not exist in large amounts in cannabis. Instead, the precursor molecule to THC (THCA) is present. Only upon heating, also known as decarboxylation, does the THCA convert into THC.

For flower, whether cannabis or hemp, the final product that is sold to customers will be high in THCA and low in THC. Only when the customer burns the flower to smoke will THC become present in large quantities. However, some natural decarboxylation will take place over time, especially if the flower is exposed to higher temperatures.

THCA can also be found in concentrates depending on the processing method, but a discussion of concentrates is beyond the scope of this article. For edibles, none of this is relevant as the products will be decarboxylated as part of the manufacturing process.


What does the law say about the difference between THC and THCA?

The key difference between hemp and cannabis (or marihuana as spelled in the Controlled Substances Act – the law which makes the plant illegal under federal law) is legal. It is set forth in the federal definition.

Under federal law, hemp is defined as:

“The term "hemp" means the plant Cannabis sativa L. and any part of that plant, including the seeds thereof and all derivatives, extracts, cannabinoids, isomers, acids, salts, and salts of isomers, whether growing or not, with a delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis.”

The key point to notice is that this definition does not refer to total tetrahydrocannabinol concentration. This seemingly indicates that all cannabis flower could potentially pass muster as THCA flower, as the flower would likely contain very little THC and only THCA, and is, therefore, federally legal. However, this is only the case if the hemp first passes the test administered prior to harvest.

Sounds like how I've seen people make spice on TV. Spray the mind-benders on some herbs and call it a thing. A designer drug, if you will. Then, is this spraying solvent melted THCa (which is apparently legal vs THC?) on hemp?
Leave it up to the online shops to push the limits to see what we can get away with in burgeoning legal states.
