    Another Runt

Scarlet Runtz by the Going2fast showgirl review and laundromat.
Sprouted in coco. Now living in large size perlite as a water baby. The 'stovepipe' is an old mechanical pencil that just happened to fit the air hose perfectly. Got it melted and poked through the lid and situated to keep light out.
Chasing the pH is going to be an issue. 6.0 going in. 6.7 after 30 minutes and brought back down. 30 minutes later I was back to 6.5. Adjusted again to 6.0. Got some thinking to do about airing the water before switching.
This might be a short journal.

Like whoa man. Kinda neat. So that's a solo cup full of coco with holes on the bottom, sitting in a coffee container filled with perlite and nutrient water?

Coffee container. Folgers by the looks. Very large,, probably Sam's Club or the like.. Cool setup for sure.

It is a holed-up Solo cup full of large perlite suspended in a Folgers coffee tub full of nutrient solution. Not the largest tub they make. Just the largest I had. 2 pounds, me thinks. Hole cut in tub lid, cutout put over the Solo to block light.
It didn't die overnight so... yeah. That's good. But the pH went up to 6.5. I'm going to buy a splitter for the air hose to oxygenate fresh nutrient solution before swapping.

That's cool as hell man, I hope it works out for you,I'm going to build something kinda like that for the solo cup challenge I think 🤔

Like I said in the other post, if it lives and I can keep the roots trimmed I'll throw it in the SCC octagon. Some of these cats do [hydro] for real-for real and know what's what. I'm purely going by the seat-of-my-pants, as it were.

Yeah, Folgers is nasty coffee in the world of coffee. But it is heaps cheaper than decent whole bean and you don't taste it if you pretty it up.

I’m almost broken by the price of good coffee. Last year it was &16.99 Canadian per kg now it’s $34.99 at the same store. I have to buy it in bulk to get the price down to 24.99 which is still a lot . Soon Folgers

The set up is cool DDog , I wish I had more time to do fun stuff with plants

Yeah, me too, I have no experience with hydro but I want to try,who knows,I might end up changing my grow style lol

DWC hydro is all I’ve ever done so i can’t compare it to the dirt farmers. Hydro has some great upsides to THC levels, but it sacrifices on flavor, whereas the dirt farmers get great flavor and modest THC levels. With my garden and my style of growing, i put in about 10 hrs a week into my plants (defoliating and inspecting), and 2 hours a week into water maintenance. I prefer the elevated THC levels over flavor.

I got to thinking about why my coco bags run 68°-70° while the bucket was 76°+ and the juice was running 78° and realized it's all about evaporation. The bucket doesn't evaporate hardly a lick, but every square inch of wet bag and coco does. The bucket is waterproof and doesn't allow heat created by the light to escape. Like water boils faster if you keep the lid on.
This is what I came up with to lower the temperature of the bucket and juice. Planting the bucket in coco was my first thought but realized it would be a pain every time I swapped juice. So, I grabbed a couple pillowcases and made like they were coco. Water was poured over, and the setup is in a deep bowl. The idea is to keep the water wicking with some basting while the lights are on.
It took about three hours for the juice temperature to drop from a solid 78° to a wavering 73°-74°. That was with lights on. We'll see what happens when the light goes out.
One bit I haven't been able to overcome is the air pump. My thermometer says the body is 82° and the outlet is 90°. I can't check the temperature of the air coming out but have to imagine it is warmer than is productive. I'm imagining a still to help with this. Get a longer piece of tubing to wrap around the fabric pot, lower in the water. That should cool down what the pump is putting out. I guess. I'll need more tubing.

Couple hours later... put the hose I have in the water and the temperature dropped to an almost solid 72°.

Holy temperature drop, Batman! Approximately 8 hours after setup the temperature of the juice dropped from a solid 78° to a wavering 71°-72°. The wicking is working better than expected as I have not had to baste the bag. The light and pump just turned off. I'll check again at the end of the day.
Color me full of myself but I have a solution for hot hydro juice! Yeah me! It might seem wonky, and I am full of myself, but I don't see why this wouldn't work with larger buckets and reservoirs. No dropping ice that will change pH and nutrient concentration. No coolers or chillers. A downside might be humidity from evaporation. It is not an issue in my setup just because the tent is open to my apartment.

      Note:
A 'solid' temperature means the thermometer set on that temperature and didn't move.
A 'wavering' temperature means the thermometer wavered between the two temperatures.

Caffeine is caffeine and Folgers has it. It’s a godsend if that’s all there is.

I’m pretty sure the cruise control feature in vehicles was invented by pot smugglers LOL.

I had to put a cruise control in my 74 nova w hopped up 350. My lead foot was costing me a fortune. That was a fun car. Amazing that I lived through that one.

Maintenace beyond swapping buckets and chasing pH at the beginning is making sure the bag and pillowcases stay wet. Even I can handle that.

60°-75° is the range I've found online.

Second downside is the bag and bowl get a little funky. I'll be stocking up on H2O2.
