Hard to recall, exactly. I turned 7 in '77. '76-'80 we were in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In that time frame, kissed my first girl, the folks went to Greece for a week and left my brother and I under the care of Dad's work friends who stopped by once to make sure we were okay and took us to a party, got picked up by the Saudi police with brother and friend for cavorting around an abandoned construction site, lived through an apartment complex fire, shamals, mutabbaq and chicken, and cruising and camping the Arabian desert in Dad's Daihatsu 4x4.

1977. Young, dumb, and bullet proof. A year out of HS. Smoking dirt weed, listening to loud music, going to any rock and roll concert that came to town, enjoying, LSD, peyote, mescaline, 714’s, green weenies, placidyls, white crosses, black mollies, beer, H occasionally, and cocaine a little bit. And doing anything I thought the man did not want me to do. Good times. I just didn’t know it.

Blast from the past

My lottery number came and went and by 75 it was all over so I skipped out on Nam, so in in 77 at 19 I would have been outback with some friends burning some buds and drinking a few too while working on our cars getting them ready for the Friday night drag races out at the Hollywood Snortatorium.

Gas was about $0.45 per gallon so driving a 69 Roadrunner with a 440 and racing a 68 Roadrunner with a 426 Hemi was somewhat affordable for us even though we where only making about $8 per hour in construction and I as a as a welder.

The only hard rule we had was no drinking on Friday night, until we where all safely back at my place where we could crash out after emptying the fridge of beer and the tray of buds. ;-)
