Running six fem autos. Two of each. Scarlet Runtz(Forbidden Runtz x Scarlet Sunset), Scarlet Grapes(Double Grape x Scarlet Sunset), Hot Cakes(The Hotz x Bessie Cake). Seeds were gifted to me by a member on another site.

Going to top one and FIM one of each. I want to see how they react to see what is better for autos. Seeds are currently sequestered in a zip loc bag with a banana peel. I want to see what happens if I expose the seeds to Ethelyne gas the peels give off to see how vibrant they get. That's not really a beginner technique but I'm trying to cram a bunch of different experiments into this run.

I'm also going to run this without using a cannabis specific soil. I want to see if someone with basic grow skills using the same stuff a newb would most likely buy can get to harvest. I'm using Kellog's Patio Plus which has wood chips. I'm guessing the wood chips are their "version" of perlite because there is almost zero perlite in the mix even though the analysis lists it high up on the ingredients list. I went ahead and amended the soil with around 30% Perlite. Everything I'm using is available at your local hardware store.

Basically the perlite amendment was one bag of soil(1.5 cu/ft) to one bag of perlite(8 dry ounces).

For nutes I'm going to go with the nutes my buddy @Terrapin Station used on his auto grow. Again, available at most home gardening centers and a typical nute a newb would use his first time. No myco or bacterial amendments this round.

When I was clearing out one of my storage lockers I found the 3' x 5' I had been looking for but forgot was in that locker. I had brought over a few things when I came to California to run the two 2' x 2's I brought with me like fans and stuff. I'm going to use those for the 3' x 5'. I also found a 6" inline fan in the storage locker so I'm using that as the exhaust fan for the tent. I bought a plug-in speed controller to be able to manually dial in the fan speed. Again, newb stuff. I found a bunch of grow gear I had forgotten about like a 1/4hp Chiller, cloning trays and lids, etc. Thankfully I brought along the ACI T3 humidifier so environment should be fairly controllable. Lights on will be at night. Daytime temps today were a balmy 105° with higher temps forecast for the next week or so. Yippee.......

The seeds will be in their "banana" bag for approximately 2 weeks. After that I'll germinate them and plant them in 3 gal pots. I was going to sprout and go the traditional route of solo cup to gallon pot to final pot but I figured their final home is going to be 3 gal cloth pots so I'm going to skip the solo cup and go straight to soil like most newbs would.

Setup waiting for the seeds to be ready for their final home. Still need to get some runoff plates and plant stands to get them up off the floor but otherwise we're ready to rock!

Seeds exposed to Ethelyne gas have been shown to make the plants more vigorous with hardier root systems. The short veg window Autos present will benefit greatly if this works.

If germinating in their final pot use extra perlite in the top and centre to give them a better start.

I started growing in potting mix outdoors...yep, looks the same as what you have there. It worked fine for the first couple of months then had to add liquid fertiliser from the hardware store either every water or every second water.

Nothing died on me and always got to harvest but as you can imagine yields were not great but it kept me happy.

I'll be watching this. Best of luck!
    Flower Room: 11' x 7' x 7.5'H, 480w AC, 13gal/day dehumidifier, 1.5gal ultrasonic humidifier, 60gal (27gal usable) nute tank, 16" pedestal fan & 18" wall fan. Lighting and climate automated. Hand watering.
Veg Cupboards: Two 4x2x6H cupboards. SF2000 Evo in one SF7000 in other. Climate controlled and automated. Hand watering
Aeroponics Low Pressure Bucket: 20W LED. 5 clones & 20W LED 11 clones
Lights: Mars Hydro FC-E1200W, SF-7000, SF-2000 evo in flower room.

I'll pop 'em outside of dirt but will transplant directly into soil.

I'm kind of running on the idea of this running sort of like coco. Basically an inert media. Certainly not the same gas exchange or water holding capacity but the big wood chips should provide enough drainage to keep the roots happy. That's my biggest question right now. The wood pulp is going to hold more water than a cannabis based soil that tends to have a lot of coir mixed in. I'm going to have to figure out the correct watering procedures for this type of soil. Drybacks will probably take longer meaning watering less but that may introduce a soil horizon of dry soil on top and wet soil below/ I may have to modify my watering practices by doing weekly deep waterings followed by light waterings in between to help the plant take up the water in the perched water table but still keep the soil above it moist.

It's really important not to runoff in that stuff or your plant will yellow out really fast.

I had plastic pots and never smaller than 13gal and watered between once and twice a week weather dependant. I never really experienced watering problems just nute deficiencies coming into flower and onwards.

That's another sort of dilemma for me on this run. Most newbs would have zero clue as to how to manipulate these types of nutrients to work for them. I can change up the ratios to coincide with the plants needs at a specific time but most newbs wouldn't know to do this or how to. I think I'm going to go on the premise that a blowhard, know it all buddy of his gave him a suggestion of going full strength Fish fert and half strength bloom. The Fish fert is 5-1-1 while the bloom is 0-10-10. Going by the recipe I just posted that would bring the solution to a 5-6-6 which is close to what most all purpose ferts run. I'll run it like this to see if varying the ratios like I usually do is really all that necessary in an organic soil.

I dont let autos in the house either, lol. I dont remember where I learned it but topping autos at about week 3 or 4 does seem to extend the veg phase a couple of weeks, Total Bro science but it seems to work. I also keep feeding grow nutes until they get to about 1/2 the size I want them to be. Bill Ward is my go to for Auto Flowers he has a lot of good info and he is not at all gentle with them.

Good Luck, looking forward to watching them grow

        Temp - 80.8
        Humidity - 42%
        DLI - 15

All the seeds popped except for Hotcakes which only one seed popped but I left the unpopped seeds in the paper towel to see if they need some extra time to germinate. Seeds have been in the towel for 5 days. Got the germinated seeds in their final 3 gal pots and watered them. I didn't water the one pot for the Hotcakes as I only got one seed to pop so once the other does then I'll plant it. If not the extras on the other cultivars that popped I can plant in place of the Hotcakes.

The Vipar Spectra XS1500 Pro's dimmer switch took a dump so the light only stays on at 100%. This means I have to regulate DLI by lowering and raising the light. I'll be sending Vipar Spectra an email to see what kind of customer service they are able to provide. I like the light and its light spread but the dimmer failing is no bueno as I've only had the light for a year.

The GF and I had to leave for a couple days and the electricity got shut off in the area. Apparently the local tweaker decided to try and steal some copper wire from the local substation. He was pretty crispy by the time the Fire Department got there.

Plants got fried from no A/C. Trying to save them but it looks pretty bleak.

I had a machine shop in Mexico and they would steal a the power lines right off the pole for the copper. I never did find out how they did it but I suspect it was a conspiracy because we were back in business with in a few hours and we were a couple hundred yards from a cop shop.
