    Grinding trim

I have myself 5 ounces of trim that includes bud and leaf. My normal is to use a coffee grinder to process bud. Leaf in a coffee grinder does not work because it gets... packed... wedged in the chamber and does not move around like loose bud. Even a small amount does not work.
The trim is sitting in a jar in my freezer. The idea is to freeze it and break it up by hand. So far, I don't think it will work. One hand does not make for a good grinder.
Another thought is to spread the trim flat in the freezer, making it easier to work with two hands instead of reaching one inside a jar.
Before I consider buying a food processor, does anyone have any other ideas for breaking things up?

It could be a painful process but try to separate the leaves from the buds and try trimming only the bud. Don't waste your hard earned money on a food processor for just a few times.

Mon dude. It took a day and a quarter to trim my last harvest, at my speed. Usually, it's about four hours. Because of other stuff, I literally spent half a day in bed getting my body unangried. Picking was the first thing I considered. After about ten seconds of sorting, my sphincter was clenched up and I couldn't think straight. I will give this shit away before further sorting!

Got it pretty crispy dry. That's why I'm looking at a hand grind. And no blender.

If you’re going to make dry sift or ice water hash it’s best not to grind at all. Especially, with a grinder as it will break up the resin heads and then you will get contamination in your finished product as it will allow the ground plant material to pass through the screen.

I guess with solvents it may be different , that’s not my thing

Not grinding has been a consideration. How effective is IW whole bud? I mean, it seems a lot would be left.

I think it’s pretty effective, you need to let the biomass soak and rehydrate until it’s nice and soft to the touch, no crunchiness, before you start to agitate. The buds will puff and loosen as well during this process. Pro washers intentionally grow looser buds to help, with this.
As you do your successive washes you can visibly see the colour change to more green and the yield will decrease that’s how you judge when you’ve got all you can. As people know Ice water processing is a labour of love, most of he time I run out of energy and no longer care about what’s left in the material 🙄

The more I think about a food processor... it would be a better investment than the coffee grinder. One big grind instead of several smaller. Something for future grows.

In this run you can see the colour change and yield drop through 11 washes , top left is #1 bottom right is last. Each successive wash is for a longer agitation time. I usually start with 1 min of agitation by the last maybe 20mins

I use a $10 ebay electric blender. It will do 2 to 3 gram of bud in it and it only takes maybe 3 to 5 seconds and it leaves them fluffy to use in a good desktop vape or rolled into spliffs.

I'm sure it would work on trim too but I haven't tried that yet. No need to grind it for butter making.
