    PH adjusters

Good Morning All. To the chemists out there. Where I am the PH of water is very high 10 +. I use rain water almost exclusivly. I have been using vinager to lower PH but its expensive. I have a hydroponics store here but its a driver. they sell a PH dowm liquid consisting of 25% Nitric Acid and 25% sulfuric Acid. I know it does not add up to 100% but thats the ingredients. I assume the balance is water. It does the job. My question is this- Is 100% Citric Acid going to have any ill effects on my plants? I can purchase a product that is 100% citric Acid in granular form from a pool store. Any input is appreciated.

If you feed your plants 100% citric acid, yes it will kill them.

But if you just use it to lower the pH your plants will be fine.

All I use to lower pH is citric acid.

It doesn't cost me a cent since it grows on trees and I have one right here.

Some nutes are not so compatible with it, but you will know soon enough, others are.

When I need to lower PH I use sulfuric acid from the plumbing section of a hardware store. Here it is much cheaper than citric acid.

Are you only feeding with water? No liquid nutrients? If you were giving liquid nutrients the nutrient would lower your water pH.

I started using citric acid crystals to organically lower pH in soil grows as sulfuric acid can kill beneficial microbes. Never had any problems but I don't need to lower my pH as much as you, my well water runs about 7.5 so I only need less than 1/4 tsp per gallon. Works great.

General Hydroponics. PH down. It's 10 bucks on Amazon. That's what I pay for a pack of cigarettes at the gas station.
