Just a curious question for outdoor growers in SoCal. Do you grow during the May gray and June gloom?

Absolutely. As long as we're looking at at least 13 hours of daylight. I usually start my grows in Solo Cups so they're easy to bring in and put under lights if the weather gets ugly. Because FreakShow is kind slow starter I'll be setting some to germinate this weekend. Actually, my plants seem to thrive in May gray conditions. My biggest concern has always been the searing temps in August and September so I installed a plant screen to shade them on the hottest days.

I'm about 2 miles from LA Harbor. I can see the Vincent Thomas Bridge from my balcony where I grow, The Palos Verdes Peninsula often blocks me from the cooling ocean breezes. Prevailing winds here are usually out of the west during the summer and my area has its own micro climate. One of the big reasons I bought this place was for the all day sunshine it receives . . . and it was dirt cheap. It's not an ideal environment for container growing but I'm learning.

Brodudeguy I think you are thinking about me. And the king tide was after harvest. .mold got half of my freakshow crop. And I'm about 80 miles as the crows fly from the opposite ocean.
