Why are autoflower yields so terrible?

I've been growing in an Aerogarden Farm (hydroponic growing system) for a few years.

I decided to try my hand with autoflowering seeds and each and every time the results are disastrous. The plants are tiny and the yields are horrendous. Like close to nothing.

Is this just a fact of life with autoflowering? Or is there something I am missing?

    Thanks!

My second grow last year was three sour diesel autos and I yielded about 8 ounces with a 300 watt SP3000. That is approx .8 grams//watt. Nebula states 0.5 to 1 gram per watt are typical yields. My guess is you aren’t using enough light or your growing conditions aren’t ideal.

It must be something you’re doing wrong. What yields do you get from fems in comparison?

Not sure why you are getting poor results.?
After growing well over a dozen autos I probably average 3 to 4 oz per plant growing in coco under LEDs. Best yield of 7oz.
Let us know what your set up is including medium, lights, etc. More info is better.

I've raised only a few but got good results with a Seedsman NL auto freebie and a Seedsman Pink Kush CBD growing in coco with bottle nutes.

Were you growing herbs or cannabis photoperiod plants before growing autos? I don't think A-G lights are strong enough to grow good weed to finish. I started my first grow in an A-G but I wouldn't do it again. I liked the starter 'cubes' in the original A-G better than the new style.

I'll ask about the strain/hybrids also as things like "Runtz" (many autos only get 18" tall) are intended to not get big while Himalaya Blue Diesel gets 48" tall. A short plant yields much less than a taller bush of a plant.

I've had dwarf autos and large autos more like a small photoperiod. It's all in the genetics, even without real problems showing up and all growing healthy sometimes it's just how the seed strain was made. Keep trying

I had a good experience with my first auto grow. 3 plants in3 gal pots in a 4 X 2 tent yielding just over 400g. to answer your question, I'd say "they aren't"??

You cannot compare a photo yield from an auto yield. I've done my first full auto grow and I can tell you I was happy with it. Like @SoOrbudgal is saying, " It's all in the genetics".

Latest project with a new setup, I got from 4 Northern Lights auto's = 22 and a 1/2 quart mason jars is a pretty good yield in my book... has not weighed it.

                            Hello Rugby
Not sure why your yield is so low... I soil grow FF Ocean Forest and only now grow Autos and have a great yield per plant and normally average 5 to 7 oz per plant I recently shared my current grow which I upped my pot size to 7 Gal and I think I will get more this time around, maybe its just the strain? although I have had good luck with all strains I have grown I also use Fox Farms Trio nute system and my Girls love them Hope this helps... Genetics, genetics, genetics. Stop buying trash seeds from trash companies. You want good genetics go Memphisto, night owl, fast buds, sweet seeds etc. Not some Canuck, greybeard, ilgm, seedsman all american rebranded bulk seed. Cuz that's all it is. Junk.

Going2fast Are you speaking from experience? Have you ever grown Canuk seeds? I have for years, sitting on 2 lbs of canuk buds. No issues so far.
