Indica vs Sativa - Does it really matter?

We all know about what each strain is "supposed to do". Indica: you grow mainly for medicinal purposes which means you want more amber color in your trichomes at harvest time (less THC and more CBD/CBN). Otherwise stony, laid back recommended for evening use. Sativa: you want as close to 100% milky white (some growers will say up to approximately 10 to 20/25% amber as well BUT THC has already begun to breakdown at this stage) for alertness, on the go, recommended for daytime use.

What decides this in the end... Trichomes, and when to harvest at the "right time". This all depends on what you want and what you like.

Here is an issue I ran into the past couple of weeks. Week 6 of flower, had a Sativa that needed propping and tying up as it was just all over the place and noticed some of the lower branches was wasting plant energy to the tops so i decided to cut those off and yes they had popcorn buds of fairly good size so not to waste them I cut them off the stems and left to dry in an aluminum tray. 2 days later I tried it. WOW!!! is all I can say.

Here is the issue: if this was that good at 6 weeks (premature for Sativa by 2 weeks since "supposidly" sativa flower period is from 10 - 12 weeks) would this be considered "ready for harvest?"

Now with Indica, I have never let it go past white to amber just for the fact l don't like "lazy weed" and seems to me I get the same effect as sativa, so is this relevant?

I have smoked laid back stony weed and pick me up weed but did it really matter what kind it was?

Personally, my opinion is that it all depends on what you want as everyone else have their own opinions because it is what they have experienced.

Is there really "the right time to harvest" whether Indica or Sativa???

Bottom line, your trichomes rule at the end.

I hear ya NuggetMan i wonder who judges ripeness on the farms? I don't care what strain S or I all i do is let them get to hopefully 20% amber. I have smoked many a milky and i liked that too cure longer. I have in younger years smoked probley clear trichs in the buds did'nt like that at all won't do it again. But as long as i can get them all milky and cure long enough i considered it good smoke.

I wonder if they have people that actually walk around their fields looking at trichomes because outdoors is a completely different story as compared to indoors.

Cannabis is like alcohol...some prefer beer, some wine, some hard liquor, some all three. It's really all a matter of perspective IMHO
I hope there is an afterlife...there are a lot of friends and family I'd like to see again, one day.

That's right. It's all up to you and what you want and what you like.

Yeah, like all art forms, what is good is what you like. You can train yourself to appreciate nuisances but if you like certain strains a certain way, that's all you need to know. As to what a specific plant is "supposed to do", I take all of this information with a HUGE grain of rock salt.

Since I use "bag seed" I never know or don't remember what I got or what I have until it's grown but after a while and refining what I know now I believe I have improved on my way of growing to get the best results possible and right in that "sweet spot". I will attest that usb microscope does a heck of a better job than a jeweler's loupe or a magnifying glass. I just picked my Indica at 61 days into flower (yesterday), post trichome pics on my other post. Have 2 more weeks left for my sativas week 10 - 12 and I will find out if this theory holds water as well.

You know, I'm pretty sure I can't tell the difference between Sativa and Indica when I have a toke. I can tell the difference between properly and improperly cured weed. As long as it doesn't grow taller than my tent can accommodate, I'm pretty sure I don't care.

I can't tell the difference either, flavor, taste, smoothness and amount of cough is what I go by. Even with hybrids grown you can't tell either. You get a buzz, that's all that matters!!!

Bro. If you are packing the bowls, you are calling the shots and I will enjoy your gift, whichever. Moreso if it is homegrown. If you tell me it is I, I will believe you. If you tell me it is S, I will believe you.
If I get, dopey, thanks for the I. If my grin seems to be eating poop, that's good S. At either end, I will feel like turning into a comfy blanket and curling up with myself while nursing to sleep, sucking on a Hershey's Kiss. Perhaps big spoon to Dabber's little spoon, and give her belly scrubbin's.
    C'mon, mule!
