We all know about what each strain is "supposed to do". Indica: you grow mainly for medicinal purposes which means you want more amber color in your trichomes at harvest time (less THC and more CBD/CBN). Otherwise stony, laid back recommended for evening use. Sativa: you want as close to 100% milky white (some growers will say up to approximately 10 to 20/25% amber as well BUT THC has already begun to breakdown at this stage) for alertness, on the go, recommended for daytime use.
What decides this in the end... Trichomes, and when to harvest at the "right time". This all depends on what you want and what you like.
Here is an issue I ran into the past couple of weeks. Week 6 of flower, had a Sativa that needed propping and tying up as it was just all over the place and noticed some of the lower branches was wasting plant energy to the tops so i decided to cut those off and yes they had popcorn buds of fairly good size so not to waste them I cut them off the stems and left to dry in an aluminum tray. 2 days later I tried it. WOW!!! is all I can say.
Here is the issue: if this was that good at 6 weeks (premature for Sativa by 2 weeks since "supposidly" sativa flower period is from 10 - 12 weeks) would this be considered "ready for harvest?"
Now with Indica, I have never let it go past white to amber just for the fact l don't like "lazy weed" and seems to me I get the same effect as sativa, so is this relevant?
I have smoked laid back stony weed and pick me up weed but did it really matter what kind it was?
Personally, my opinion is that it all depends on what you want as everyone else have their own opinions because it is what they have experienced.
Is there really "the right time to harvest" whether Indica or Sativa???
Bottom line, your trichomes rule at the end.
