    Prevent Gnats

Quick question that google has been hard to find an answer.
can gnats (not there larvae) live in rooting cubes (sponges) and thrive?

My experience with gnats is that they can live pretty much anywhere it's damp. Last year I had a problem with them in my kitchen sink drains. I've had good luck keeping them at bay in my soil containers with DE,

I run a DWC and they are all over my top leaves and building webs on my buds. This happened last year and I needed up cutting all the leaves off and spraying DE all
over the plant. Harvest was messy.

I could be wrong here but I've never heard of gnats building webs. You sure your not dealing with spider mites?
