      Ahem, here is my resume:
      • 68 years old; started loving cannabis in the 1960s.
      • Growing since July 2016, so my five year anniversary is coming up.
      • Indoor grower, hydroponics. I helped a friend learn how to grow in soil last summer. He didn't do what I told him to do, so his weed was mediocre.
      • I grow photoperiod plants only; not interested in autos.
      • I believe that the grower's intentionality towards cannabis is very important: my intention is to grow the very best medicine I can.
      • Cannabis has brought out the wicca in me: I worship her and she connects me more strongly to mother nature.
      • Most recent harvest:

One of the great things about the GWE forums is the minimal amount of snarky meanness shown towards newbie questions or the occasional troll. I greatly appreciate that as a respite from the culture wars raging around us. So, I'm All In on this effort and will gladly contribute what I've learned about this fascinating subject on request.

      My background:
      • 68 years old, using cannabis since I was 13. I recall the evolution from mexican dirt weed kilos, to Panama Red, Acapulco Gold, Thai Stick, Maui Wowie, Skunk and onward into the fabulous strains we have today.
      • I've grown in many different venues, from a hippie commune outdoor acre, to guerilla grows on a isolated mountainside, to secret closet setups in states that offered life in prison if you were caught.
      • Now, in the age of Canna Enlightment, growing has become legal and I've got a sweet basement grow room for my experiments. Hallelujah and pass that doobie!
      • I have a strong science background and I'm more methodical than creative really. I've been growing a single strain, White Widow, for the last year, tweaking the "knobs" each time to get to know that one plant deeply. Now I'm moving on to the wild world of AutoFlowers.
      • I grow exclusively in large pots using soil comprised of the compost I make combined with Foxfarm or other quality commercial soils as an amendment. Appropriate nutes as needed. State of the art LED lighting and an evolving system of environmental controls allows me to pamper my plants and let them tell me what they need.
      • My goal is epicurean quality rather than high yield.
      • I'm learning how to create cannabis tinctures and hashish and I almost always use a vaporizer to spare my aging lungs.
Despite my avatar name I'm generally amenable and helpful. So, if there's a question I'm qualified to answer, hit me up!

Cool idea...I could use some help with growing that is for sure. I like the name too, OG
      • 53 here.
      • I have done the summer Canadian ritual a bunch of times in the past (find a secret spot, plant a few plants there, check them throughout the summer and hope that they are still there for harvest time). This was back when it was still illegal. But this was always outdoors of course
      • Since it has become legal in Canada I have been trying to grow indoors. This is a much different animal than growing outdoors. The plant may also not be there by harvest time but only because I killed it.
      • I'm a little stubborn too I guess. For example, if I hear of a new grow method or trick...I want proof and details of why the trick or method works before I will try it.
      • I usually grow one autoflowering plant at a time. It is enough for me.
      • Using soilless mix under LED lighting and CFL lighting.
      • I've really grown fond of growing cannabis, it has become one of my hobbies. My goal is to grow the best cannabis that I can grow with the equipment that I have.
      • I have given advice on here in the past but I have decided that I probably shouldn't and will refrain from doing so. I'm really still learning and probably shouldn't be giving out much advice.
Good luck BU2B Thanks for trying to put this together. If I can be of any help, let me know.

We may just become a mutual admiration club... although I hope not. After 5 years on this forum, I find it difficult, if not impossible, to help newbies that haven't read or studied anything about cultivating cannabis. Helping someone online who doesn't do their own homework is often an exercise in frustration, because you get various people hazarding guesses and lots of advice based on opinions rather than on actual knowledge or without having enough info. That's the basic reason I'm not as active as I used to be. Don't get me wrong: I welcome all newbies, but I refuse to keep writing the same essential information over and over that can be found over on gwe.

So my motto is: Anyone can grow shit weed easy. Growing top shelf weed is not easy if you can't keep all your balls in the air (juggling metaphor). Once you learn to keep all the balls in the air without dropping them and fucking the whole thing up, then it starts to get a bit easier. At least that has been my experience since I started growing.

Lots of truth and mutual feelings in this post. Great analogy with the juggling (glad you pointed out balls in the air was juggling). Very true. The ones that drives me nuts (staying with a ball & nut theme) are the ones who pop in, write a fairly detailed post on their problems, you reply with an equally detailed post trying to help them and they never return to the forum so you don't know if they even read your helping post. It can be frustrating for sure.

62 here and I agree, asking questions when you've not even looked for answers in Nubula's and Sirius' posts has got to be annoying. I have really tried not to do that, they can really muck up a place.
How about when that happens instead of answering just post a link and paste a gentle yet clear statement that you keep on hand like, "Please SEARCH for an answer to your question on growweedeasy.com that may have been addressed already on the site before asking a new question." Cut and dry sometimes gets the message across.

And also to you JeffInCanada exactly what my mind says but i struggle at times to put it into writings. I enjoy those young growers who really want to grow well an put effort into understanding soils, lighting, enviornmental needs to harvest top shelf weed.

I just barely make it in the post 50 club (51!) but I wouldn’t say I am an expert. I think my first time trying weed was about grade 6 but after university my use of the plant went down to almost nothing until growing it became legal and I realized how much benefit it could be for me. I think I have about 7 grows under my belt now, a mix of mostly indoor but a couple outdoor. I purpose built a grow room in my garage. I grow mostly photos but I have done a crop of autos. I mostly do hybrids and indicas but I have done and will continue to do the odd sativa. I like to try new tech (I used to be a software developer but for a number of years now I’ve been a technical project manager), new strains and trying new things in general but I wouldn’t say I am a specialist. I generally try to apply logic to problems rather than trying something I don’t understand and I like to see the science behind decisions rather than just using blind trust. I respect and agree with the others above that it can be frustrating when people don’t do their homework before asking questions or don’t appear to realize it is real people answering with their spare time but given I was once one of those people I can live with it while finding a few new friends in the process. It would be nice if we had a phalanx of experts answering questions but since there is not generally a lot of true expertise with cannabis given there has been little research (for all of the obvious reasons) I am ok with the idea that much of what people put forward is more about personal experience than true expertise - I am just really happy they have decided to share their time and experience (it would be good though if people cited where they have an opinion vs a fact).

in short, I am very happy to be approached with questions. There are people with more experience than I have and I am not ashamed to in turn ask them for help occasionally as well. It is a good ecosystem

EDIT - the one thing I would add is that I have been coming to the conclusion that people create a lot of their own problems (myself included). The new growers shouldn’t jump in with the idea that they will maximize the yield in their grow space on their first crop with loads of smelly rock hard top shelf nugs. If they do they end up trying to do a lot of things they don’t understand. It leads to anxiety and a lot of damage through too much love for their plants. If they started off by letting their plants do most of the heavy lifting (eg stick with LST and ensuring their ph is suitable and save measuring EC and having lights as close as humanly possible without burning things to their second grow etc). Just my own thoughts. I think the plants can live through a lot if you let them and starting slow will mean more learning and less frustration (and probably larger harvests on average).

Count me in as well - I've seen my birthdate come and go 64 times - don't remember them all.

Been growing since I retired from CBSA - 7 years indoors. Only 4 years with a grow tent - early mistakes were done in a shed and outside.

Currently only grow autoflowers. Have Done photoperiod in the past but once i started using a tent i just couldn't figure out how to keep the vents closed with no airflow for the 12 hours of darkness. So autoflowers were tried and never gone back.

I like to be able to start another grow while my current grow is a few weeks away from harvest - without worrying about light requirements.

I grow in soil - Promax HP - which stands for high porosity - currently using an Optical COB light by Cree. I use 2 gallon Geopots.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Well this one say who I am in a few words. Yes even at 68 I'm still searching for the "perfect" top shelf, loud and all of the other buzz words used now in the cannabis world.

Am I an expert grower ? Au contraire just a grower who after all these years who is still learning... But one thing for sure I still have that burning flame to grow more and more of that gorgeous plant called cannabis.

This looks interesting, I'm a little different from most here. Been around the sun 60 times. I have enjoyed cannabis for the last 46 suns (how things have changed). I have been making tinctures for the last 10 suns, but somehow never grew until now. Currently only my second grow. Last year as a joke/dare a bunch of bag seeds were thrown into a wet paper towel and then it started. Didn't have clue one of what I was doing, unprepared for what I needed for supplies how to do it, just a total noob. Someone suggested growing in pro mix bx and GH trio so that is what I did. That is when I joined this group and started reading everything I could find about how to grow, and asking questions on the board. I studied different training techniques and tried as many as I could. I cared for some, and downright abused some. Starving, burning, dry out, flood, strip All fan leaves, strip All shoots, LST, HST, manifolding, you name it. One was called tortured hybrid since the cat knocked it off the rail, then every time I went by I gave it a hard backhand. Most of them survived. Those that didn't got burned (not in a pipe). I learned about insects, tree larf, white mildew, bud rot, nutrient starvation and burn, ans so much more. I also learned about harvesting, trimming, drying, curing. The best thing that I have to say is I sure have a natural ability to grow a prime crop. Not just my opinion.

So now this year I have settled on indoor coco/perlite DTW hydro with GH trio and cal mag, sf 4000, in a 5x5, and autos for outside in pro mix hp. I'm still learning, and am glad to have support from people on this board. And I have to say, that I recognize almost everyone above as someone who has responded to my query, or made helpful comment over the past year. BU2B your PPP grow method post was a true inspiration in planing this year's set up. The manifolding information was very helpful. Ty. Onward...

It seems alot of us have used what we've learned from this site very well. This is the reason i like this forum, the old timers keep sharing there skills and knowledge what works an what does not. When we share advice we hope it's taken an used to improve the newbie weedhoppers grow. It's a lesson on patience and work. I see some same old questions same questions over and over from same careless growers still here, still asking for help with same issues we tryed to tell them how to solve. Some are just playing the same game hoping for a different answer when it's right there from months before same issues.

I don't think this would happen if you had to pay for this information. I'm always willing to help those who try hard to correct the issues. Some would like you to wait on them like needy babies an search for a drama site. So i tend to ignore those leeches that suck the wind from this forum. I don't know if they change names really does not matter, they care less about learning and growing top shelf or better than average weed. I suspect they are the same in there real lives. Other than growing outdoor for 40yrs and learning on this site about indoor i feel confident an very very pleased with the quaility of my weed. It's a great gift from Sirus & Nebula that they've given. We are free from advertising which is so annoying to me.
