What did you bring from "civilian life" to help you grow mj?

I guess I'm feeling chatty this morning!
good morning on this rainy icy beautiful winter day!
we all have various non pot related skills and knowledge, which ones helped you become a better grower?
for instance I took with me all my horticulture experience but I also had an extensive martial arts training that allowed me to bring discipline, focus and helped me reign in patience. It takes years to develop decent fighting skills and one must learn to look at the much much larger picture. What say you? Construction skills, smart pot sewing skills, cooking skills, ninja skills, ligor drawing skills...

Certainly math and basic knowledge about energy are required to create the right environment. Basically most of the science is done but you still have to calculate everything to get it right

That's the part I had to learn, electricity and amperage management was brand new territory to me, it's still a fine balance though...

I repair equipment so I troubleshoot on a daily basis. This has helped immensely. I also have a high mechanical aptitude given my profession, which also helps a great deal. I'm a firm believer that anyone can grow. Just have to focus on your strong suits and don't be afraid to get help with your weaker fields.

It's the type of knowledge I have built up in my brain, and am now getting rid of with each toke.

Grew up on a farm and learned that plants are just like people. Keep them fed, hydrated, protected and a lot of TLC and they pay you back many times. Spent 25 years in IT. Helps when I read something on some site and if it doesn't pass through the logic filter I take it with a grain of salt.
It's not how crazy I am, but how much I enjoy it that makes me dangerous.

I hear you, my daytime job is what keeps me sane, just nature and me doing our balancing act. I believe that pruning is where the artistry comes out in gardening. At least that's how I can express myself the best in a garden.

before I started growing I already had a basic understanding of biology plus a strong background of maths and science from school doing calculus, physics and chemistry. I knew about electricity, light reflection & refraction, different elements and their properties in regards to their position on the periodic table, mixing chemicals, pH etc.
I have good problem solving skills, a thirst for knowledge on subjects that interest me and a smoking habit that I can't afford if I don't grow my own haha.

I believe our we live in symbiosis with our 'girls'. We provide them with the love and everything else they need to thrive and in return they love us back and provide us with a wonderful medicine and plant fibre that has the potential to change the world for the better (if the governments of the world get their shit together)

I relate on many levels. However when the plant dies the relationship is +/- not +/+ peace.

in my next life I would like to be a licensed electrician, back hoe operator -with one and a plumber.
