    morning rain snake

Heard rain on the roof at 6 this morning. Opened the office door and turned on outside light and found this next to door. Very, very unusual to see snake this time of year. May have something to do with all the digging going on nearby. This is baby diamond back rattlesnake about 12 inches long. Very, very dangerous. They have more venom than a big one. This is one reason I don't worry about someone stealing my plants at night. When plants are in bloom these things are everywhere and big too. The jar I have been making oil in was the only container I could find on short notice.

Ugh...I'm out. I don't do snakes and spiders.

As a young man I was bit in the hand by a rattler, reached into a saddle from the tack room and he was laying under it. I still have issues with my hand, fortunately (Or whatever) I had the bridle in my right and reach for the saddle with my left, still have issues with it 50 years later. Sneaky little devils.

I used to know a dude that would cut the rattle off, tie them in his plants by the tail. He had the end of the tie through a tube so he could pull it inside.
Dont do that boyz and girlz, that will get one in trouble.
Not big enuf to eat yet, turn it loose!

We have terrible varmint problem here so I need the snake as predator. Gonna be in the 40s for about 5 days might snow tomorrow and tues.. Don't know what to do with it till gets warm again. I guess I can babysit. Will call wildlife rescue see if they can keep it till weather is warm enough for release.

I carry a 2ft club in my car hubby made it from the center of a oak round. On our 1 1/2 mile dirt road to our house the snakes are stretched out sunning yes i've had 2 small rattlers that i've move also, no none ever coiled on me. I'm more afraid of the humongous bull snakes that are thick as my wrist nearly.

Yet another reason I'm glad I don't live in Arizona any more. Heat was the main reason, but I never liked having to look inside my shoes before I put them on either 😂 damn scorpions and tarantulas are sneaky little things.

This could be his great great grand pa. Almost got my wife about 25 years ago. was under her car and struck at her when she opened the door. Missed but caught her pants leg. It was 5' 10". Now skinned and framed hanging above picture window.

The baby from this morning is already free. Snake rescue says he would be able to find shelter before more rain and snow. So I released it out away from the house.

I am glad it went back to the wild to grow up and eat lots of rodents!
