new to the forums. question on meanwell driver

hi this is probably a noob question ect i dont know much about electrical stuff but i was wondering is it ok to remove the meanwell driver from my led grow light and re mount it upside down with longer screws ect

the led grow light i am using is a sf 2000 made by spider farmer and it is mounted with a spacer between the heatsink and driver leaving room for air movement and or heat dissipation i think but i run a fan over my light and its always cool to the touch so if its only for heat i dont think i need it or would it maybe short out if its touching the heatsink directly with out the spacer

i got my light before they added the external dimmer and im getting over taking the driver off when i flip to flower

i was thinking about cutting the driver off and maybe extending the cord and mounting it the driver outside my grow box but if i can just flip it id probably be more happy with that

thanks if anyone can answer that

Hmmm don't seem to be any takers with this question. I hear ya but can't give a opinion as i'm not a tinker with electronics. Sorry good luck

I saw somewhere that a guy did this to the exact light that you have but he used long spacers so that there was still a gap between the driver and board. I wish I remembered where because he had exact measurements of screws spacers Etc

im a just do it i guess and see what happens .
im expecting nothing bad or expecting to buy a new light lol
two weeks after i got my light they put out the ones with external dimmers. rip on timing
been using it for a while decent enough light apart from the dimmer being lame

I don't see a problem with a short there's no kind of insulators between the two I just think you could overheat the unit and shorten it's life. So imo I would either put spacers on the screws or between the driver and board

Yes, you can definitely remote mount the driver.
I've done this on the 3 320 watt drivers I use in my main room.
You need to determine the drive current the fixture uses, and then use a suitable conductor to hook them together.
My fixtures are about 15 feet away from the control panel outside of the room and run about 2-4 amps of current under full load.
I just used 16ga stranded copper zip cord for the runs and it has about a 50mV voltage drop across the circuit-works for me.

        WHAT???

        900w of Vero's and F-strips
