I let them dry until the buds break off the stem. Then I put them in jars with hygrometers. If the humidity goes up too fast I spread them out and let them dry some more. I like them to level out below 60. But that's just me. You want some moisture left.I seldom have it around long enough to worry about that.

I prefer them to snap not bend as well. If nothing else you can always put them in jars with humidity packs. I’d rather they be slightly moist than dry. Seems like once they get too dry you never get rid of the harshness when smoked.

Snapping branches has been the standard for as long as I can remember but this season I have given up on it. I've been noticing the hang and dry method just wasn't working for me. I was getting crispy, semi-larfy bud due to temp and humidity fluctuations I just couldn't control. I hang for a day now and do my trim then lay it flat on a rack in a container with no light. I make sure that my dry area has air movement and I turn the harvest twice a day until they're ready for the jars. I've seen a drastic improvement in my final product since switching.

I will cut the buds off the branches and put them in brown paper bag for day or two. I am doing this now with branches i been hanging. I cut my huge buds into halfs or thirds so don't get mold before i jar. I care about how it looks but it's not for resale just our on home smoke.

I’ve been having a hard time myself, even considered buying the dryer My Herbs Now. Nebula tested it and had good results. Problem is the website is gone and I think the owner may be having some legal issues. Anyways my Herbs over dried so this last plant I harvested I just hung it till the stems bent a bit not snap them I jarred them up and I’m keeping a close eye on the buds opening it when needed and my hygrometer helps with knowing the humidity in the jar. I’m in dry southern Cali so drying for 14 days with 60/60 cold and humidity is not doable for me. I run the AC all day but not that cold and I use the humidifier but don’t seem to work. So now I have a lot of material for tinctures and canna butter.

Here in Southern California there is a tendency to have the Santa Ana wind conditions always during our harvest window, making drying a total pain in the ass. Like you, I tried maintaining things with A/C and humidifiers but it just wasn't working out. Back in the 70's and 80's I dried product in cardboard boxes so I decided to give that a try again and with a couple modifications it's working well for me.
