Look at the stipules if they make an X it's probably a female. That's the only way I know of to tell sex before they start flowers it is not 100% accurate but it will give you an idea1 PhotoTENT 1 4x4 SF7000

I'm gonna call bro science on that one. Anything falls into a certain percentage but not a single farmer I know or have ever talked to has mentioned that as a determining factor. I know some pretty smart people.
If you keep a plant in veg for 7-8 weeks, it will usually start to show pre flowers around the 7th node or higher. Aside from that, take a clone and sex it while your main plant continues to grow. That or order one of the sex testing kits available in the States. The chromosome for that trait has been mapped and with enough money, detection can happen as soon as there is leaf tissue to test.

Also the link that I added before where I got the picture above if you click on the blue writing "what is the purpose of stipules" it will take you to her actual post. I would never post something on here that I didn't believe to be accurate and in some way could help someone. I'm sure I'll be wrong from time to time and when I am I will apologize. I'll be around to have a coffee with you sorry I don't drink. 🌲😎
"I had no idea the answer to this so I actually spent some time researching this today! What I found is that stipules can take many forms on different types of plants, but we don't fully understand them all.
Unfortunately, I couldn't really find a solid answer. The best guess from what I've read is that it may act as protection for the bud site until pre-flowers form"
-- So I wouldn't exactly bank on that feature for determining sex but it sure as heck would be interesting to see what percentage of the time it is accurate. Seems like she based her statement off of her own experience but doesn't provide support for the theory from elsewhere. Cheers for the conversation.
