    Some good info here.

In this ILGM Big Buds Guide, we discuss how to make buds bigger during flowering, and the nutrients and techniques needed to grow huge buds.

Yes, good info and seems spot on, but they make no mention (at least with the attached pictures) of the color of the trichomes, which is what the GWE site endorses as the true test to ripeness.

I also like their information, but for the beginning or hobby grower like me, the Tutorials on the GWE site are still the easiest to understand and implement for me.
    completed 7 grows
what I have learned so far:
    environment maters more than nutrients
at least a dab of nutrients in every watering
effective flushing before harvest is critical to quality

When I opened the link it was on a portion about splitting the stem. I've seen a you-tube video where an old time grower always put nails through his stems. I wonder if drilling a small hole through the stem might work ? I don't think I'll try it but wonder if anyone has ?

I didn't see that. What is the reasoning behind splitting a stem?

I think the old timer in the vidio did before flowering started.

It makes no sense to me. A week before harvest is not gonna be enough time to create new resin. it takes weeks for the plants to develop tricomes and then fill them with cannabinoids and a week before harvest they're pretty much done. You are just waiting for the tricomes on the outside to get fully mature so the tricomes on the inside on the bud aren't underdeveloped.

I guess the only way to find out is to do it and see for your self.

The idea is stress will make plant try harder to stay alive. I have had stress help, but too far is going to kill or be source of infection

Does the stem splitting really work if so what would be the perfect time to do it?

I'm wondering that too. Never heard of stem splitting and what is its purpose?

Sounds right to me. I'm always open to new information and methods of growing as long as the source is able to explain the reasoning behind the method. I feel the author has done that in this case.
I'm going to try it the next time i veg my plants.

Good read, Gordo. I'm still new to the "grow your own" game so I like the KISS principal. My first grow was off the charts, my second grow not so much. It was okay but I made some mistakes late in flower because I thought I knew what I was doing! Experience is a wonderful teacher and looking forward to my next grow but I will not be so aggressive this time...

Smoking MJ is not addictive,, growing MJ is. I grow mostly for the fun of it, along with the other benefits of knowing what you are putting into your body.
