Making homemade vape From decarb or fresh?

I am making a first attempt at vape cartridges next run. The ease of use is amazing when you have a good cartridge on hand!
My question is for those who have made vape cartridges, do you make them by first decarbing the THC-A into THC before mixing in with vegetable glycerine? Or will the process of vaping the final product mixture decarb the THC?
which do you prefer when making your cartridges and why?

I would decarb before hand ,I make oil just not for vape pins so i'm real interested in this topic thanks for posting lol

Does it have to have the glycerin? I remember the so called 98% THC oil that used to come in from time to time,,,

Maybe I’ll get to that point of 98%. For the first time, I’m following the basic instructions. Glycerin is non-toxic and good grade quality. You can swallow the stuff with no ill effect.
I will use it to extract the THC from the plant material.

ive tried VG and PG in several ratios and none worked, you need PEG 200 or 400 to truly dissolve and suspend the thc, you dont need to decarb because it happens as it vaporizes, good luck

Yes, I agree. I saw an option for a $4k fully automated system, but this is just for me. I’m not spending more than $300 on everything. Just looking for something readily available for night pains when I’m too tired to pack/smoke an entire bowl.

I would decabe thca first because after the fermenting thca will probably turn to cbn-a and the final vape will decabe to cbn-a to cbn

You’ll definitely lose the terpene profile with decarbing unless you use something like the Ardent Nova. I tried making my own cartridges but the end result was never any better than a dry herb vape and the process was a hassle.

Right now I am doing bubble hash with my trim. Either way I go, hassle follows. I’m not afraid of the work involved.
I agree with loss of terps. That doesn’t happen while warming the VG and weed for extraction?

My understanding is that the commercially available cartridges are manufactured with a clear liquid distillate. When the distillate is manufactured the thc and terpenes are isolated from each other until the thc is fully activated, then blended back together to give a full flavored product. Using distillate doesn’t require your carrier, vg in this case, to be heated to a warm enough temperature to degrade the terpenes. I haven’t heard of another way to get a natural terpene profile without using distillate.

Agreed! I was thinking about adding the terps during filling. Maybe I’ll try a mini batch run with out first just to get the hang of it.

I've made vape cartriges and I didn't decarb first because the vaporization temp will do the conversion into THC. I used MCT oil to dilute it--very safe alternative to glycerin.

I work with glycerin and glycol at my job. These are food grade products we are discussing (not the other types). I understand the concern about heating into carcinogenic vapors. The temps I am vaping with do not reach the “danger zone” when it comes to heat.
Safety is always my utmost concern.
Why are MCT oils more safe? Is it the combustion issue?

Yes, well weed is a plant. One could argue that it was not made for inhaling either...but here we are.
I’m not concerned about these products and my body. This is the same heat transfer fluid alcohols used in food manufacturing. I know they are safe for any type of consumption.
The issue is with high heat combustion. Enough to vaporize the PG.
fortunately for me, none of my vaping equipment could ever reach that high of a temperature. At maximum, I’m still 100F below the danger zone. 😋

Seems like the temperature to turn VG and PG into carcinogenic vapor is around 450F.
Good, because my vape pen will reach 375F tops! So seems like there is no real threat unless my pen malfunctions and draws too many amps from the battery.

With all of the news lately about the potential cancer risks of overheating dabs, VG and PG...I am just using a good Ghost MV-1 and PAX 3 vape with buds. I like that skinny little straw looking pen and it is a convenient thing to screw together and use, but I am no longer the gambler I may have been. They both have oven temps that are customizable and the concentrates require something the size of a grain of rice.
ON THE OTHER HAND... I still want to see something developed for use in a cartridge
