    PaganRich So am I!! I just emerged from the grow room, spent around 2 hours changing reservoir (30 min) and defoliating. The girls are rounding out week 6 of 12/12, and I've been steadily defoliating throughout flower.

    I go by these 3 rules:
    Anything with a petiole is fair game;
    Very short petioles stay on for a max of 2 weeks, then I cut em;
    Any leaf blocking bud sites.

    I find that after week 3 defoliation, some petioles grow out slowly, over the following 3 or so weeks. I cut them as they grow out. Also, if you look closely at almost all of the pics all over the GWE site of colas in the final weeks of growing, you'll notice that most of them have been pretty stripped of leaves. So clearly, this is a technique a lot of master growers use for indoor grows.

    Thus, for me it is true that defoliation continues throughout flower. A defoliator's work is never done.

    alltatup There`s always that argument as well but I`m a defoliator at heart...anyway, there`s my thinking. Hope you`re good in yourself and have a lovely weekend

    Yeah, I'm not entirely sure, either. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

    LurkingInTheGrass It is a corker I`m tempted to have on my gravestone `He Came, He Saw, He Burnt All His Bridges` which in the Google Latin comes out as a very snappy `Venit videns succendit omnes pontes` which is not to be uttered carelessly when drinking Stout I`d hazard

    alltatup My thoughts are that they`re not covering anything, still generate overall power to the plant, eases the shock of defoliation and saves me a bit of work-what the hell-and that`s pretty much it really. If they`re not in the way, I leave them. I suppose it follows that Scrog net approach where lower leaves are just left. Don`t know if it makes a difference but I would imagine that just from lack of post trimming shock, it should help. Good question though and one I don`t really know the answer to

    My understanding is that leaves only deliver energy to the immediate surrounding buds--they don't send anything long distance through the plant.

    :alltatup Why take them off? Serious question

    I agree: they should bud up with a vengeance. But... Why leave all those fan leaves below????

    oldjarhead100 Thanks mate-appreciated...just watered them and they`ve all drank around a gallon and not even blinked at it plus girls I trimmed few days back haven`t even stopped in their tracks....so far, touch wood, it`s ticking along nicely. Those frames take the veg stage a bit longer-10 weeks roughly-but for a rolling harvest, even canopy and tight spaces they do work very nicely. I sawed a few inches off the bottom of the frames` legs and started manifolding at 6" above soil...keeps me entertained as there`s different stages going through so I don`t have time to get bored. Hope you and yours are faring well mate

    nice job PaganRich it takes a time or two when you cut that much to not think you just killed them but they love it they will back big and bushy in a week, and I like the spreader things you are using

    Red Diesel...Apart from one budlet I inadvertently removed which always niggles me a tad it was a very peaceful and relaxing defoliation. Well, for me anyway.
    Pic 1 & 2 before I started and 3 & 4 after. More removed than I initially intended but there were a lot of concealed budlet sites which needed to be opened up...When I defol around week 3 I stop the Neem oil foliar spray but keep a strong lookout for mites
