    First Grow GG#4

    January 2019 First grow.

This is my very first grow, here is the grow area.

Indoor cabinet located in partially heated wood shop.

    Cabinet size is 48” H X 36” W X 20” D (inside measurements)

Cabinet is made from ½ “ plywood, it has 1” rigid foam insulation covered by ¼ “ white melamine. Cabinet is on casters for easy moving. The doors are made of ¼ oak plywood (1 ½” solid frame).

    Front of cabinet.

Back of cabinet. You can see the duct work for the PC fan.

Three timers, one for the fan, one for the lights, and one for the heater.

The moving blanket helps hold in heat as well as blocking light from around the doors.

    The inside includes

Adjustable lights currently holding 8 ea 42w CFL.

    Adjustable shelf.

PC fan (120 mm three speed 12 volt)

    Thermostat controls small 250w heater.

I have two thermometers (one connected to my intranet so I can remotely monitor temps, and set alarms for to high or too low)

    Lights and fan on.

I currently have the fan running on low and the duct work partially closed, with the lights on I can keep the temperature around 80°, with the ability to raise or lower temperature as needed.

I plan on running my light cycle from 6 PM to 12 noon, using the small heater and thermostat to keep the “dark temperature” around 60° .

I plan on growing GG#4. I will get two clones in about a week.

Will transplant into 1 gal or maybe straight into 2 gallon pots

I have a great local source for all my plant needs.

    Soil, pH tester, and nutrients.

I would appreciate any helpful comments or encouragement.

Looks well thought out - great job! Didn't see a pic of the roof - cuz I was looking all through your pics and couldn't see your venting holes? You're gonna need air flow through that cabinet.
    Good start - good luck.

My doors don't fit real tight so there is some fresh air coming in around them.
If needed I can drill some extra holes in the bottom for ventilation.

Your going to want to tighten your door - can't have any light leaks. Need the airflow to guard against mold/budrot once your buds happen.

That is why I have the moving blanket inside the doors it blocks out and light from the doors, but is still allowing air for ventilation

Interesting project. Four feet of total height; are you going to SCROG or mainline your girls?

You have to admire the imagination of a person on a mission ! A Blackout shade mounted inside the backside of the door (they come silver) and mount another fan box lower right for air in. you should be set. Great cabinet making !! you have talent. I like the organization it keeps it clean looking. good luck with your grow!

            Thank you Colombo.
I have always loved wood working, and attention to detail.
i know I'll have to add a small fan inside at some point, and I expect to add some vent holes at the bottom.

            Bed for my girls.

I am getting pumped, should get my girls in another week.

I need to make sure everything is ready for their homecoming.

Right now I am thinking about pot and trays (or saucers).

My shelf is 19” by 36”, and I want to utilize the space best I can.

I would imagine my girls will come in solo cups or maybe 4” pots.

Where do I go from there? Transplant into full size containers or work my way up using 1 gallon, then 2 gallon, then full size?

I need to consider how tall the pot is as I want to be able to get the most growth from these ladies.

Also I have read that you need to remove your “runoff” water but not move your plants around a lot. So I am thinking about a single tray for both pots set on a slight angle so runoff water is at the front of the tray for easier removal?

Ok so now I am wondering if I should use "super soil" or add my own nutrients
also really looking at those smart pots

            What works best for you?

I myself use my own home made organic soil, takes a lot of time to make.
I am using the smart pots for the first time (mine are home made 20 gallon), and so far I like! Ok I am using a bed room to grow in, in your box maybe 3 gallon and autos. I am doing autos now, but will do some photos as well this summer (less heat to deal with)
I am setting the GF up with milk crates lined with landscaping cloth, just over 4 gallons of soil, and no sewing! She will be doing autos.
so far I like these, not so heavy one cant move them to another area, like to make some seed.
Why buy clones? Good seed is easy to get,,,

                February 13th, 2019:

The grower I was working with for the clones has not come through.

                I purchased this beautiful girl.

She is Northern lights and as you can see quite tall and leggy.

Here she is after transplanting into a 3 gallon fabric pot.

I have already started training her to spread out.

I want to fill my cabinet as much as possible.

She has been on 24hr lights, so my first task is to slowly change to 18 on and 6 off.

I will change an hour every two days (hopefully this will not put her into flower mode)

My biggest question now is how aggressive can I be in cutting her back. I need to keep her short so I have enough room to flower.

                Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

You have a nice challenge on your hands. The training looks good. The bending technique works very well. just keep bending. I am using it for the first time myself and find it easy. Theres a term super cropping that deals with bending also thats interesting. The light change I will leave to those with multiple grows! Good luck! Good Growing !

Looks like a sweet little setup man. I gotta day tho, when height is limited, scrog is the only way to go. My last harvest only took up a 2’x 2’ space and didn’t get any higher than 12”, and brought in 10 oz. Granted I have a 600w HID, but that space has some potential! I really like my scrog design. I made a link in case it was something you wanted to check out.
Week 3: I’ll catch you up on the deets. This little lady is a clone who was meant to be kept as a “bonsai” mother, but I changed my mind. I have one

How would you start a SCROG with my plant
it is already close to 2 ft tall

With my Lucid Blue, I simply bent the plant straight over, tied it down, then put the scrog over it, but mine wasn’t as tall as yours lol. You could also top it down to the 3rd node or so, but with as much as she’s grown already I could see how this wouldn’t be a favorable option.

I would like to top and make clones from the topping

How aggressive can I be in topping, without harming my girl?

She’s plenty old enough and looks healthy, I’d take just above the fourth node and make 4-5 clones out of the offshoots on the top

                      Cloning my girl:

So I decided to be aggressive in topping my girl.

Just to get an Idea here are before and after pictures.

This is my very first grow and and first try in cloning.

                      Before trimming

And here she is after the trimming

                      Here are her six babies

And here is momma and babies back in the grow cabinet

So we will see how many of these six actually root, or rot 😢

                      Another picture of the cabinet.

The shelf has been adjusted to the very bottom of the cabinet.

I am thinking that I have a bit of a conundrum, with one cabinet, how do I grow the mother while also growing the clones?

I would like to keep this as my mother plant.

I read someplace that I can flower this mother then “re-veg” and take some more clones.

I am trying to find a way of eventually getting all my cannabis from my own grows, including clones.

                      Any suggestions?

Maybe clone your cabinet, just a little bit bigger and use your original for the plant clones. Just a thought. Good Growing!
