    Consultant giving strange advice.

A friend of mine suggested having a consultant come in, someone who's been growing for quite a while. Makes his own soil Etc. He came in yesterday and looked at the auto that is about a hundred and twenty days old she has no Browning pistols on her yet but super fat buds, and said to harvest it because the brown hairs don't really have anything to do with when it should be harvested. He does not know autos at all, and said we should not be growing autos. He also said he grows with a 100 watt light and it covers for feet by 8 feet. I find many of the things he said to be questionable. What do you guys think? Oh and he also said you can't trust anyone online because they lie and take fake pictures of plants that aren't even theirs.

Have you ever heard that bit about the pistols don't have to be Brown? And the ones that are in the 12 12 room he said should be stretching much more and they are pummeled with too much light. Then he said to lower the lights which to me sounds like a contradiction.

Before I followed any of that person's advice I'd say "show me your grow room"

I have done professional consulting for commercial and personal grows. Let me be the first to say... 100w will not cover that grow space (4x8). That being said, I would be cautious about anything else that guy told you.
4x4 600w HID empty for summer
3x3 400w HID with Bruce Banner and Skywalker Kush
2x2 65w Quantum Board LED with 4 mother strains
running all simultaneously for a perpetual harvests.

That is some horrible advice. On the autos there are some plants that the pistils dont act the same as other plants. Some do not have trichomes go amber. If the pistils are cloudy it should be good to go. But it also could need additional time. Om just assuming that this is predominantly a sativa strain.

Howdy Greenpassion, You know what the definition of an expert is? It's a has been drip under pressure! LOL! I have always been skeptical of 'experts' and 'consultants', If they are so good and know so much, why aren't they doing it for them selves?

              Fire him.
A consultant should be looking at your grow environment and make suggestions consistent with that.
Sounds like he only knows one way to grow , which is insane.
The best 100w cob will cover 4x4 in veg and 2x2 in flower.
It's all bullshit - until you smoke it!

Towards the end of the session he mentioned that he grows in grow tents. And I correct me if I'm wrong but I think there's a huge difference and growing in a grow tent and growing in a room. 1 LED grow light has more illumination because of silver walls of the tent. There's a lot of Light Lost in an 8 by 10 ift room
                .

Reflected light is nothing compared to direct light.
Besides some growers use the same Mylar film to reflect in a room that is found inside a tent.
It doesnā€™t make a difference which we are speaking of. 100w is not enough direct light to efficiently operate that space.

                Yup, two different growing styles.
There is reflective light which looses about 25-30% depending on the wall materials.

No concern in an 8x10 as you can cover as Toker1 mentions and you can use the walls/corners to your advantage to reflect light.
Just make sure it's fastened well.

And my 12 12 flowering room. I have six lights viparspectra 450s over a 6 by 5 foot area. There are five Northern Lights under these. He's telling me that I could go down to three lights. In both rooms actually. I was trying to explain to him that before we got additional lights in the 18 six room the internet spacing was quite noticeable. On my veg plants. The internet spacing is nice and tight in the 12 12 room. They've been in there for a week and according to this guy they should have stretched way more, and I told reminded him that I did a lot of pinching and then move them probably too soon into the 12 12 room. And that would have slowed them down. He's saying that there's too much light and that's why they aren't stretching as quickly.

Yes the lights are more efficient in areas that can reflect the light. Whether this is in a tent or a room with walls made to reflect the light. But that is still no where near enough light for the space he mentioned.

How do you find a MJ consultant? Does this guy do this for a living or is it a friend of a friend?

We have to have people from state wildlife and game, the forestry service, and the agricultural department come out to our various farms for this report or the other and for advice on improving the land, wildlife, and crops. Every once in awhile they will send someone who knows what they are talking about. But mostly it's just people with degrees and letters in front of their name spouting theories.
