The ramifications of this is huge.

TLDR: Basically, the FDA says it's safe/effective and the DEA has begun reschueduling cannabis, which they have refused as recently as last year.
It's all bullshit - until you smoke it!

So basically they've allowed big pharma to use "purified CBD" as a schedule 5 but still keep all other CBD as a schedule 1 for everyone else.

The thing about schedule 5 - if its not a federal prescription, then the states control it.

It was GW (not big pharma), rather a cannabis specific company which already has a synthetic derived product on the market.

Because of their research (GW), they were able to force the DEA's hand to "approve" the addiction studies, for the very first time-and FDA approved medicinal use (plant derived) and it's addictive potential (lack of).
They will be hard pressed to keep cannabis on schedule 1- after this.

Gotcha. Makes me feel better knowing that at least.

Hell, I'd be grateful if I could use cannabis as an adjunct with narcotic pain management. DEA has its head so far up its butt I'm not holding my breath...

My mom has fibromyalgia, and a few years ago I got her some CBD topical cream and oral spray which so far has been the most beneficial with the least side effects (the Cymbalta she's been taking has some weird side effects if a dose is missed by even a few minutes). She would be eligible for a medical card in my state, but I think the barrier is cost of both the card and the product (we assume that insurance won't cover any of it).

Not sure, if she does she never mentioned anything. I didn't even know Cymbalta could be prescribed for fibro, I've always seen it marketed for depression.

We're both heavily researching cannabinoids and fibro. One thing we have noted is that synthetic derivatives don't seem to work (not from experience, reading on other conditions and the synthetic formulations), so it has to be something with the body's receptors only keyed for natural compounds. That would make sense as raw weed is considered a "superfood"; probably loads of compounds that can't and never will be synthesized properly.

My Sister has celiac disease, which means she is allergic to gluten. She tells me that the 50 state legal CBD oil is far more effective than what big pharma hands out (for big bucks), it also has no high to it.

Weed Pharma, I sure hope your right it is high time for a reformed and this is a big step in the right direction for plant-derived medication. I just fear that it is only the commercialization not the legalization of marijuana.
      Thanks for the read.

Mr.furley, Keep in mind,- at the turn of the 1900's it was the pharmacuetical companies that supplied cannabis through US pharmacies and they have lost sales since 1942.
At that time, cannabis was incorporated as tinctures etc. and was approved in the United States Pharmacopia (USP) for many health issues.
The USP has been working for years to help legalize cannabis based on medical science.

States allowing personal growing of cannabis puts a balance on commercialization vs legalization of marijuana.

Yup, I see commercialization with the possible consequence of useful compounds being bred out/diluted for a buck. Me a bit leery of drug companies? Yes.

Well From my understanding Big Pharma spends millions every year lobby DC amd adds to keep Cannabis illegal, but it is staring to sound like they here the piggy bank in the back ground. Perhaps there is a Shxx storm brewing in DC between federal legislation and corporation / state ambitions. Yea Canada....

I’m not much of a soapbox or political guy but as I’ve aged... F it! How much time do we have to lose while waiting for politicians, big business and govt to allow government of the people, for the people and by the people. Will I be so old that I’ve lost the independence of enjoying the benefits of life’s treasures due to ridiculous policy? We could expound on this for a very long time but I’m sure you get it.

          ok.... I’m done

Many constitution rights have went by the Way Side in the past decade and most of them are temporary with a continued extension!.. However there seems to be a corporate Greed building that is going to stampede DC regarding the marijuana industry / culture and current federal legislation. IMHO

I would love to see a Presidential Candidate run on the platform of making cannabis legal, for at least medical use, federally. All polls I've seen show most people believe it should be legal for at least medical use. And I'll bet that even if they didnt win more people would vote than any other election before.

jokes aside, if we the people of Oklahoma can get it legal for medical use, you can too!
Just watch the election in a few days, it was thought that all those that registered for the first would never vote again. What is happening is even more folks are getting on board and registering to vote, they suddenly see that "we the people" do have the power to make these changes!
I read somewhere that there is a bill being looked at to make MJ legal for anyone over 18 YO, in any state, fingers crossed.

We could also go back to hemp production for paper et al instead of trees, which would be a big environmental plus.

There'd have to be a way to make the pharma/alcohol lobbies irrelevant (which could be easy; contrast the number of violent incidents/deaths caused by alcohol, prescription drug abuse and weed). From what I've seen this past year with local elections grassroots funding can go a long way, but not sure how well it would scale on a national level.

Or and I know this is a shocking idea, how about insulating our politics and politicians from money? They get paid minimum wage for the hours they work and that’s it. No campaign contributions, no donations, they have to beg for personal favors for every ad they run.

I see on the propaganda box that there is a growing amount of folks that are for the legalization of MJ, over 60%, if these are registered voters it would pass now!

The way it’s put sounds cringy, however he’s right for a doctor to prescribe something it should be as consistent as possible. We are talking about a single debilitating disorder that is treated effectively with CBD alone, and every strain has its nuance
