    heat/humidity

I have a big problem with a six footer. It got in an over watered condition because of poor drainage. Usually when it gets very hot here it is very dry heat like 0 humidity and it is almost impossible to over water. On the one plant somehow the drainage got messed up. The soil is wet but all day yesterday and day before she was very wilted. I gave no water because soil is wet. 108 yesterday and gonna be 106 today 30% humidity. Plant is fine now but when sun comes up I am sure it will wilt again. I thought it was gonna die yesterday, wilting and leaves turning yellow. It is in a 80 gallon ceramic pot. I am thinking about taking a piece of rebar and knocking holes in the bottom and then a good flush. Soil 6 inches down is pegged wet on moist meter now. A good flush or should I wait and see? I am afraid it can,t take another big wilt today. She is fine now but sun is just coming up and it will be 100 soon.

Can't you just put some kind of shade over her? Like a tarp or something like that.

I don't want to expose her location. Not sure if that would help. None of the others are affected by the sun. They all have good drainage too.

Is it a gorilla grow? If so go an army surplus and get an old camo net. Better than a sore thumb blue tarp. It will shade a bit from the sun but still will allow lots of light to come through.

I think this is a root problem showing itself now because of the heat/humidity. Should I try and fix it or wait till soil dries more? Plant could be dead by then.

It may help to poke a stick or wire down to the bottom of the pot a half dozen or so times to create drainage and Air circulation if it's too late to transplant

I tried some shade. Seemed to work until the heat came on then wilted. Yesterday I had jammed a bunch of holes down through the soil with a piece of rebar. I think that has kept it alive. When shade did not work I took that piece of rebar and jammed it through the soil and took a 5 pound hammer and pounded the rebar through bottom of pot. Took a masonry drill bit and drilled 4 1/2 inch holes in sides. Flooded and flushed it with my sprayer on jet. An hour later and she is coming back. Thanks for the help and inspiration. I am afraid what the bottom of that pot will look like at end of season.

No, I would never try to transplant at this stage. If knocking a hole in the bottom did not work. Next solution would be to build box around it break pot then fill with soil. All that work will now not be necessary.

Could not build a box anyway because at my age this heat would probably kill me. My smart wife told me so.

The pot had four 1 inch holes to begin with and somehow they must have got plugged. Once I knocked another hole in the bottom problem seems to be solved but I am afraid I might have connected all the holes into one big one. Will find out end of season.

I feel your pain. Hopefully you got it taken care of! I had to take plant early for mold, granted it was mainly my fault for putting outside way to early. I live in the northeast and we have a had stretch of super high humidity the won't break!

Hello, what are people's strategies for dealing with white powdery mildew? I have just noticed it and want to catch it quick.

Somehow my plants have survived their Death Valley days. Temperatures were in thee 100+ plus range for weeks. I measured a high of 108 degrees in the 3rd week of July. This last week this string of super hot days has ended the high yesterday being a frigid 77 degrees. I have seven of my premium plants loaded into the back of my Kawasaki Mule, and drive it in and out of an additional car port attached to my barn during the hottest part of the day. The plants have not only survived, but are as bushy and healthy looking as any of my previous indoor grows. These plants can thrive in hot conditions with some shade, and plenty of hydration. However looking to flower in the barn.

Well shite! I sprayed my plants with some green cure fungicide (active ingredient potassium bicarbonate) to get rid of white powder mildew. Used very weak solution but it turned the hairs on my flower brown! Anyone have experience with that stuff. And the White Powder mildew is still there only a little better.
