    Lighting opinions

I am looking to change out one of my 600 watt hps lights with a nice LED. I was looking at lights like the viparspectra, galaxy hydro, etc, with the led panels. Recently I have been reading about cobs and the kits. These supposedly out perform the panels. After seeing a few people recommend them over the panels, I thought I would look into it further.
Here's what I've looked at after a few suggestions I've seen....

https://www.rapidled.com/4-x-4/ this one I wasn't sure on the cob brands. I know the cree name only because of replacement bulbs at hd. I would be purchasing a 3000k spectrum as it is for my flower room.

    Thanks

Galaxyhydro very good inexpensive ($100 for a 300 watt with UV & IV spectrim. the Viprarspectra is a bit lacking in flower lighting and many b have to use addtional flower lighting..RemEMBER THIS YOU WILL PROBABLY UP-GRADE IN led'S LIKE WE ALL DO AND YOU do GO THRU A LEARNING PERIOD FOR A FEW YEARS . tIMBER A BID EXPENSIVE , HEY!!!! LOOK AT 'LED LIGHT DEPOT.COM" FOR A GOOD LIST OF EXPENSIVE LIGHTING

I have two galaxy hydro 300watt lights on a SoG right now. They're only the 9 band though.
the point of this is not the most expensive, the best for the money is the point. If I can buy a light that is twice as good for the same money....why not? I was just wondering if anyone has experience with cob kits or some knowledge they would like to share. I mean I can read, and read, and read articles and reviews but real world opinions are better. Not skewed marketing tactics and reviews.

When I was researching lights for upgrade, COB's were all the rage. I ultimately went with LEC mainly because COB's were so expensive at the time but they do have a lot of upside! I haven't seen much info lately about COB and that makes me wonder...

Mcubed476 is the only person I’ve seen here that uses cobs if I remember he loves them.

Gordo also went with a cob setup but I haven't seen him here in awhile either.

I've been playing around with lights in my 4x4x7 tent.

First I started with one 600 w MH and HPS. Was growing 3 plants, one of them starting growing much taller than the other 2 so I added a 300 w Viparspecter LED. All was good. Then I wanted to experiment on my next grow so I removed the HPS and went with 4 300 w Viparspecter LED's. Was great for light distribution, each plant had a light. I was pleased with results, but temperature was slightly elevated.

For my next grow, I removed the 4 LED's and went with 2 LEC 315's. I've never seen growth like I'm seeing on these 3 plants. Have the temperature controlled in the high 70's°. I think I'll be sticking with LEC's.

I have a vipar450 and I think my plants like it more than my 400w MH and it was cheap. I plan on getting more of these for wider coverage

I was looking at the par700 or the par1200, also... ultimately I think I'm going with the 4x4 kit from rapidled.com. it's pricey but I hear it's amazing from other growers.

No doubt it’s great if you can afford it. From everything I read multiple smaller lights will produce better coverage then one big one, But I’m no pro. I’m very impressed with how much “prettier” the plants are under the LED then hid

          Just my take on led's...
I began indoor grows 3 years ago with a few Mars and King panels-about 450 actual watts. They produced a few decent harvests but coverage isn't optimal. I did a fair amount of research and decided to build a couple of 4 array rails. The Cree's were the top dog at the time but I saw the new(then) VeroSE which had similar efficiency but were 30% cheaper. There are chips out like the Luminus CXM22 for less than $20 so running multiple low power arrays is getting affordable. This is where things get interesting- Quantum Board style chipsets or light strips offer the simplest plug and play options out there. They use the best commercially available diodes for efficiency and using multiple diffuse light sources creates a very even light spread. Read up and spend your money wisely-if you're planning on growing as a passion it makes more sense to invest in equipment that you can use for years to come rather than replace every couple of years.
          WHAT???
          5x5 grow space
          900w of Vero's and F-strips
          4-17gal totes self-made UC system.

Exactly what I'm going for! With the one I'm looking at I can upgrade later by buying a few parts. Or change my spectrum with different cobs if I want
