HELP! 6" exhaust fan/filter too big for 2x4x6' tent?

So I was expanding and got a new tent, light and exhaust set up. My problem is I got the 6" exhaust fan/filter combo instead of the 4" combo and now I'm not sure if it'll fit in tent. If it does fit, the damn thing might be too heavy t hang just on the tent frame. I thought about installing the actual fan outside the tent and have just the filter inside but not sure how itd work. Also considered sitting the big heavy ass filter on the floor standing up and just setting the fan on top to have like a chimney stack from floor to ceiling pushing air str8 up and out. Not sure if it's worth trying to configure the 6" combo to fit or just returning the combo for a 4" one. Not looking forward to shipping the 6" back and waiting for 4".

Anyone run into this circumstance before? I'm also worried about light leaks with a passive air intake, Bc new tent is for bloom but is located in a room w/ an open t5 veg tent. Worried about T5 light sneaking into the passive air intake for bloom tent.

I bought a blackout curtain at wal-mart for like 5 bucks cut it up and used spray fabric adhesive to cover the low netted vents. Allows air flow, acts as a filter, easy and cheap to replace and haven't had any light issues.

The weight and all shouldn't be a problem for the tent frame. Never set up a filter on the floor but as long as you have negative pressure it shouldn't be an issue. I'm not sure it it's a legitimate one but my main concern would be pulling the hot and humid air back down through the canopy as well as the fresh air not circulating as well.

Do you ha e a pic of the black out filter on your passive air intake? Do you just cover entire tent with black out curtain and use spray fabric adhesive on netted intake panels, or are you talking about cutting up the curtain and using spray glue to affix curtain over mesh panels in a fashion that allows airflow but not light leaks? I'm a true believer in the 7 P's...

I run a 2x4x6 tent (720w LED) for flower and found that the cfm needed to be increased from 100 to 200 most of the summer- It won't matter what diameter you use.

I had been using 4" and bought a stronger fan 4", but for reasons of sound db and vibration.

I run it 50/50 100cfm/200cfm- exhausting to the outside.

Yea, I've used drum liner trash bags before as black out wrap, but you obviously have come up with a much better diy passive air intake black out. That's a good point too about filter on the floor, I wasn't thinking about the filter sucking hot air down before passing it up and out of filter was on the floor. I might just order a new 4" combo to throw in tent and keep the 6" as overkill back up to filter air in the room the tents are in. Not really necessary except when I'm drying/hanging a harvest, but if I did keep 6" for that, it'd be a "big peace of mind" thing.

My tent is 2 foot by 4 foot and 6 foot tall. I use a 8 inch 747 CFM fan and matching 8 inch carbon filter all on floor . WORKS FOR ME

How the hell do you fit it all, I'm trying to slam the 6" combo in my 2x4x6' tent with a 600w Viparspectrum LED panel that measures 15"x12". I thought I was good at Tetris.

The 6" fan is rated 440 cfm, overkill for me I think. VanTech combo. I just wasn't thinking when I made the order. I thought the combo I already had in another tent was 6" when it was 4" and I never double checked in my haste.

I will take a pic of my set up once the lights come back on in about 9 hours from now-
It will show you a simple solution which would be hard to explain.
even though I exhaust outside- it is set up to add a filter at any moment!

I run a 6" fan, filter and silencer in a 2x4. It fits, just. I have a gorilla tent so it holds the weight no worries.
I have a temperature controlled fan speed controller, I run the fan on minimum and if the tent starts getting above the set temp my fan speed increases until the temp drops back to acceptable

In this 2x4x6 tent grow-one plant is reaching over 4'- I had to delay flower by 2 weeks, as I wanted 3' plants.

The first photoperiod plants and a new LED- so I grew it long to determine the lights penetration for future grows!
e.i.- If the LED creates full buds down the plant for 16 inches, before getting smaller- then I woudldwant to flip them when they are @16" in flower to give me a final 32" tall plant.

That way I do not waste time growing tall plants when what I want is Fat buds!

The tent on left hand side- both the fan and filter are outside- as it's a very small tent with no room inside.

The tent on the right hand side- only the fan is inside the tent (and does not interfere with the LED) but a filter could be attached to the inside if my plants were 3' or less.

Also, if I need a filter- I take the exhaust vent out and place in the filter (like the one on the left) when there is no room in the tent!

Nice set up WP. I gave in and ordered the 4" combo, that 6" can was almost 2' long by itself, no way I get it into 2x4' tent without limiting grow space signicifantly.

I size my exhaust at 4x my tent for me it's 4x8x6.7=214.4x4=857 I have (2) 6" 440cfm fans. Do I run them at 880cfm? Very rarely but when you need it it's there. Usually I run one at 50% but I'm in a basement and during the summer ambient temperature in the basement is 68-71 at 40% humidity. I may not be so happy in the winter though lol.
