Sonnyhad , The plants have been treated like royalty...I move them from the morning to the afternoon sun...cover them over with glass panels when rain is predicted...shake off the early morning dew. 🌿 Unfortunately this year we've had an unusually humid and wet stretch (for July)...just when the Northern Lights and Critical Jack were producing very thick buds. The bud rot got into them in spite of my care and their exposure to the wind. So at the moment I don't have an answer to how to prevent that rot, other than suggesting to grow strains that are naturally resistant or do not have a tendency for thick buds. I am definitely open to suggestions! I think that if I lived where there was a long sunny and dry summer, things would be way easier! 😊 Thanks for checking in! 🌻

Here's hoping the humidity goes down!!

A midsummer shot of the various stages of growth, including 3 that are partially harvested due to the beginnings of bud rot. The humid weather continues this week, so it's constant vigilance for ripening buds, as well as treating the occasional appearance of powdery mildew on leaves. The autos are so quick to go to flower, so it is fascinating for me to observe the few photoperiod plants, which are showing only vegetative growth at this time! 🌞🌿

Have you tried a H2O2 foliar?

I'm really loving it indoors, once a week for prevention.

Prevention ratio: 1 gal water, 1/2 cup 3% OR 2 Teaspoons 35%. Double the Peroxide levels if fungus is present.

Hope you get some good weather soon! Oh yea I dig that different stages pic

Thanks for your suggestion GanjaGed! I will look into the H2O2 treatment, since bud rot seems to be the only big issue this summer, and the plants are otherwise growing beautifully. Probably the best thing that I did was to stagger the grows, which makes it great because when something happens to a few, I have many more younger ones to play around with! 😊 I still am getting lots of good bud to harvest on the few that showed the rot at its beginning of harvest window. Thanks again! 🌻

Here's a few of the girls. Swiss Cheese has some awesome colas getting close to pluck. White Widow has filled in nicely, and may be my favorite (WW was the very first cannabis grow I ever did!). Jock Horror has formed a good structure for future development. Candida is a photoperiod, super high in CBD (she's much smaller than the other 2 photos, but is now making up by becoming a gorgeous specimen). And the last, Lemon OG Haze, shows the bandages I needed to apply on the main stem. I discovered recently a small hole made by some stem borer, so I used sharp knife, made a slit parallel to stem (long slit cause it took awhile before finding and eliminating the culprit), and closed up the incision. This was done several days ago, and she is looking rather undisturbed from the surgery! 🐸

You bet, BTB, I try hard to keep these girls on track! πŸ‘£πŸ‘£ I've done the borer removal many times with my squash plants (squash vine borers), but this was the first with my favorite herb! It is great to see the strength and determination of cannabis, once again! 😊

hey Rockman I'm in Mass as well my outside autos are just a little behind you so I haven't had any issues yet but I will come OCT. one thing that might be of help to you is neem oil I use it and green cure for WPM but the bugs don't seem to like the taste of neem oil so I spray for that as well . in one of Harly Smiths classes he stated if you increase the cal mag with amino acids it will make your plants WPM resistant ,it makes there skin to thick so the wpm can not attach itself to the plant. thats a real simple explanation its still early lol

Thanks oldjarhead! I do use the neem oil occasionally for bugs (haven't had too much of that issue), but have never sprayed it into the thick buds to prevent bud rot. GreenCure is my go to for the WPM. As you say in your next post, I have not lost much bud yet to the rot, probably because I keep a close watch for it, and remove any that's starting. Hope your garden thrives...you probably are growing photos since you mention going all the way to October? I really love the autos, since they are so quick to produce, and I can get many staggered plants going! Hope that Mass sunshine is strong for us in August! 🌞🐸

Thanks MedMan, I will keep those products in mind.πŸ‘ So far, I haven't had any issues with pruning cannabis and complications from the cuts. But then again, I'm relatively new to the game, so this may be an issue I'll have to face in the future.

never heard of it before medman but it sounds interesting. yes rockman I grow mostly photos I have 5 auto in woods and 4 in garden. I only use the neem for bugs and WPH never tried to spray it on buds to prevent bud rot , I have sprayed it on buds about two weeks before harvest and there is no taste or residue left, I think I will pick a plant and try it for bud rot if it works wow what a saver

Yes oldjar, it would be great to try out on a plant or two to see if it is indeed an effective prevention for rot. I've some photos in my back woodland that probably won't be forming buds until September or later (not sure since they are the first photos I've grown). At that time, weather conditions can get cool and wet for extended stretches, so bud rot will most likely be a big concern. Then again, maybe we'll luck out this year with perfect weather?! 😊😊

Time flies, summer is winding down here, with less direct sunlight for my girls.🌞 Here's some pics of my later started autos, as well as pics of the 3 photoperiod very high CBD varieties, Candida, Nightingale, and Green Doctor. Also I've got a few JoJo photo plants, which a friend gave me (they were freebies for him). I am getting excited about seeing how the photoperiods switch to flowering! According to oldjarhead100 , here in Mass that should start in a few days! 🐸

Certainly feels like summers are getting later and later in the year, here's wishing you a bunch of Autumnal sun.
Then again, maybe it just feels that way because it's California and telling one "season" from the next can be a challenge!

Yes GanjaGed, the Candida is just so friggin pretty! It is way smaller than the other two photos, but makes up with some fabulous branching. And, I think I spotted the first buds today, so she's on her way to hopefully providing some great CBD! That's if my weather cooperates for the next month or so! 🌞

Thanks MedMan! 😊 I've been learning more and more about CBD 's potential for many healing processes, and even though the previous autos that I've grown have been what is classified as "high CBD" , they have not had the very high levels (CBD far exceeding the THC content) that are in the 3 photo strains I'm currently growing. So I'm very excited about the possibility of getting lots of this important cannabinoid! 🌿

      #25
I've rounded up the 3 very high CBD strains to hang out together for their flowering stage in a deer and woodchuck proof cage. Also plan to have a clear tarp to cover the area so I can control how wet they get. We shall see....🐸

My apologies first for the delay in getting back on this super forum. And glad for the technology update! πŸ‘ It's been quite the summer for all of my girls. I didn't get many great final photos, but managed to get a few shots of the 3 very high CBD strains mid-September. All in all, harvests were good, and most everything was used to make oil extracts that are either in use or put into freezer for long term storage. The humidity and bud rot were a constant issue on all the autos (harvested mostly by mid-August), but not so bad for the photoperiod girls ripening in September. Already I've purchased enough seeds (CBD/THC ratio of 1/1 or greater) for next summer's garden.🌿 🌿🌿They're coming from Seedsman, I used bitcoin for the first time! πŸ˜‰
Hope all the forum growers are doing well, enjoying all those special cannabis growing moments, and growing as well! 🌻Until later....🐸

Hello again Alltatup! 🌸 I hope your Candida (as well as the other CBD strains) do well for you. As mentioned to Ganja, my high CBD oil extractions do not possess enough THC (deliberately) which might create a high that interferes with mid-day activities. I also extract at various temps (between 150F and 250F) so that some batches do not decarb completely, allowing the cannabinoid acids and the terpenes to remain actively medicinally. I certainly have enough THC cannabis available if I should desire getting really high. Medically speaking, my CBD extracts appear to be helpful, though I am just starting their use, and more time is needed before I will be convinced that they are completely effective. With chronic conditions that have developed over decades, one can reasonably expect that something like cannabis therapy may take an extended time to bring the body back to homeostasis. 🌻
