Using a grow tent setup on a covered back porch?

Greetings. I'm setting up for my very first 1-2 bucket hydro grow but have limited space indoors. I've got a 2x4x7' Gorilla tent, 4" inline fan with carbon filter, 600W Advanced Platinum P600 LED grow light, and 5 gallon Power Grow hydro kit, iceprobe chiller for each bucket. I live in FL where it gets pretty hot in the summer. Would it be OK to put my grow tent on the back porch out of direct sunlight given the fact that I'll have a chiller to keep the nutes cool? The ambient air temp could be in the mid-90s on some days. Would this be too hot on the plants if using an exhaust fan and clip on fans inside the tent for air circulation? I've read that it's important to keep the nutrient solution under 70 degrees and I hope the chiller unit on the 5 gal bucket would work. I don't expect much heat to be generated by the LED light so I just have ambient air temp of the shaded porch to worry about. Feedback and advice would be greatly appreciated before I start setting up the grow tent.

I wouldn't do it. Indoors the environment outside the tent can be controlled to some extent. Outside, there'll be heat generated inside the tent and outside, fans will be running 24/7. If no other choice at the minimum I'd keep the lights on when it's dark outside to help with heat control. Good luck!

On hot days you would be pulling the 90 degrees heat into the tent. I would also worry about light if neighbors could see it when you open the tent.

Howdy Kjones6160, The heat will not be the only problem, the humidity will also need to be dealt with, especially when the buds develop, no one wants bud-rot. If You were to put all the (possibly) necessary equipment, Chiller, dehumidifier, A/C unit, and power distribution wiring, it could draw the unwanted curiosity of the neighbors. I'm not trying to discourage You, but it would be easier inside where the A/C is going to be running anyway (I assume).
Good luck with Your grow and I hope that it all works out for You.

If you are going to try I would recommend setting everything up and running for a few hot days before putting any plants in and see what happens in the tent. Also have a back up plan in case things get too harsh. You will want to screen off the air intake to prevent insects from getting in.

Fully agree with DW2 and Newf , you could get all your equipment setup how you want before hand and give a test run with no plants then you will know what problems you will need to address before you subject the plants to it. Better to plan the environment ahead of time than try to adjust on the fly.

Also keep in mind that LED's are low heat but not no heat. I have a 1000w LED and when I first got it in my tent it went up by about 5 degrees, not a whole lot but when your already running in high 90's outside the tent every little bit helps.

Good Luck and I'll keep an eye out for your journal.

hey 6170 sounds like you will be fight a up hill battle maybe it would be easier and cheaper to put the tent in a closet and put whats in the closet on the back porch in something rain proof
